i didn't even think there were chances of rain back in the forecast for today, but i did look before i went outside to putter around for a while. some clouds looked like they may drip and i wasn't too enthusiastic about what i was doing so that was enough for me.

We had lots of gusty wind and rain today. I did manage to carve a quick pumpkin. We listened to spooky stories while watching the pumpkin glow!
Happy Halloween!

A bright, sunny morning — the sun showing up an hour earlier made it more so ;).

Starting out, I accomplished what I had hoped for by staying on the horizontal in bed for 8 hours. Most nights recently, that has not been the case. Yes, I realize that the sun will disappear below the western horizon earlier but being up at 2:30 and realizing that there will be 4+ more hours of darkness is not the best way to start the day. I look forward to knowing that the sun will be highest in the sky with the shortest shadows for the day, and lined up due south at 12 noon :).

The wind is picking up and will blow the last of the frost away. There is a slight chance of snow falling at sunrise, tomorrow. Not worrying about that ;).

Steve, with his morning cup of coffee ☕

Looking back on the compiled monthly reports from the Weather Service ...

October isn't really a part of the growing season but for cool-season crops, about half of the month could be considered so this year. The rainfall was considerably above average with 2¼ inches while the October average is about 1⅓". A relief from the previous 4 months.

September was about average but coming close to ½ inch over the 30 days can't be said to have amounted to much. However, compare the previous 3 months of June, July and August: .13", .07", & and .06" . That really amounts to Nothing. Zero.

Temperatures were above normal throughout all of these months and quite a bit in September. Thankfully, we didn't have any blistering hot days.
