Your Weather, 2026

I think today might be the last of the really cold nights, but there is a frost warning this time. I went ahead and covered everything. I usually never plant tomatoes or peppers in May, but it was so warm and they are growing okay. Usually I am just now planting pole beans, but they are all up and looking really nice. Everything is covered and DS and I went to town and got a yard of compost I needed and we had a huge down pour of rain and lightening. Tomorrow it will be in the 60s and sunny, but down to 40 something at night.

@Gardening with Rabbits , I am just south of the border of 5b and 6a. We are a good 10 days from any more frosts and looking at ups and downs with areas north and east setting record highs!
Today, we got a good pouring rain. One month ago we were still in a drought. NOW, there are days I cannot work outside bc it's too wet.
Btw, I am Also just south of the Latitude of Rome, Italy.

we finally got a good rain here. it's been a week or two. the ground in the garden i wanted to work on was too hard so i let it sit until it could get rained on.

at first when the storm was coming through it was really quite a blast and it looked to be pretty harsh and perhaps even close to tornado like or just a straight line surge. areas around us did lose their power but we got through ok. the power did fluctuate some but i have a UPS and wanted to keep working on something so i just made sure to keep saving things as i finished them and closed open files i didn't need so i hoped i wouldn't get a direct hit from lightning. my other need though is that the internet connection keeps working through the radio tower network and that was not taken out either so i didn't have to shut down. usually i prefer to be safe and shut things down and go do something else.

looks like they're making progress on getting the power restored. when i checked an hour ago there were nearly 70,000 people without power and they've got the power restored for about 12,000 of those by now.

I am not sure if we had a frost. It got down to 36 but rained sometime. I was lucky that I did not get things ruined with the plastic. The water settled around the edges. I had a few things kind of bent down but they stood back up. We are having nice weather now.

On a recent episode of Mid American Gardener, they mentioned that even hardy native-to-your-area perennials can get frost nipped at 37 degrees F. They even said that many (hybrid) Magnolias lost their blooms in our county last month. NOT.mine.
I planted 15 ft east of the middle of my house and That has protected my tree against the winds that accompany the cold in the Spring here. I had full blooms this Spring, and magnolias like to hold back and rebloom.
In Fact, Mine needs more pruning, although they prefer very minimal pruning.
