The LaMancha ears bothered me at first too. Now I think my Nubian doe looks goofy with ears on her. They grow on you.
You can breed them back in a couple of generations of crossing with a Nubian or Alpine. I bred some crosses last year that have little pointy "elf" ears", and their kids would have full Alpine style ears. But then, they can only be registered as experimentals or not at all, depending on parentage. We could not register Baruch even though he is purebred, because his mom's papers disappeared somewhere as she got passed from home to home. But we care more about production than papers, so he will work well for us. We just raise them as backyard milk providers for ourselves and fellow small farmers.
