Some people have bad luck picking out a good horse, doesn't matter if it's a pony or not. I find smaller horses to be just more playful, you could almost call my horse 'boring and aloof' and the pony and minis 'active and curious.'
But they're all individuals raised in different environments with different treatment. So who knows...I hear some people drug their crazy horses/ponies so that the buyer thinks it's a good, calm horse, but as soon as the drug wears off at the new owners property, it's back to being a nutcase.

She got to meet the other two face to face. No pics of her with the gelding, he's an a-hole after all. A lot like the paint mini, but she's the same size as the filly, so less of a threat.

Horse people will understand!

So DH and I got into a bit of a fight today. He started talking about a pony. I thought we were talking about the pony the neighbors had, he thought we were talking about a foal my horse, Contessa, had. Then he claimed I was being deliberately obtuse when I didn't understand which pony/equine he meant.

Yes, millions of city folk may think a pony is a young horse, but I told him that horse people would not instantly make the connection. Am I right or wrong?

No, not a big fight, just a misunderstanding in our conversation. Since he hit his head this past March, he has had problems recalling the right words and, of course, he gets frustrated with himself and with me when I can't immediately make the leap from what he said to what he meant.

I love that guy, but I feel that I am losing him bit by bit, day by day.

:hugs Red, I'm so sorry to hear you say that about your hubby...I hope his faltering is just a temporary thing while his body heals. Certainly, it must take a long while to get through an injury like he had, even though it seems fine on the surface.

City people think any small horse is a pony. Any baby horse is just a 'baby horse' even if it's a baby mini or baby pony. And then some westerners call all foals colts instead of foals. Colt is a male, filly a female, foal is a baby horse.
Ponies are roughly 14.5h or even 58in and smaller, 58in is 14.5h. Minis are 38in and smaller. With most registries not allowing anything over 34in. And minis are scaled down versions of horses, not shaped like ponies tend to be.

My pony is fat. He almost looks like a horse when in shape, which was only once for about 3wks. Unfortunately, I can't find where I put the originals of these pics.
Nearly exactly the same pose going down for a roll in the mud.

The questions I almost always got - "Is that the brown one's baby?" and "How big is the spotted one going to get?"

Red, it is sad that you feel you are losing your husband. I hope that is not the case. Does it really matter what we call a small horse? Being a city person I always think a pony is a young horse.

Smart Red asked if she was right or not, so clearly, it matters to her. I answered and she was right, a pony is not a baby horse.
