DH & I picked up this piece at a yard sale last year. Apparently, it's two ammo cases that some enterprising old guy put together with a couple of boards. It's decorated for Christmas, but now that the holidays are over, I need an idea for what to put in the bottom level. Right now, it's in front of my windows and I have houseplants "upstairs," but downstairs is pretty much in the dark. I have some of the poinsettias that've hung on there now, but are on their last legs. Any ideas?

Lovely. You could just keep updating it with new inexpensive potted planet. Are Gazania around now? Or cyclamen? Or fern type potted plants. But I would go for color.

Nice find! It definitely begs for something green to come trailing out of there. Are you going to be moving it outside or on a porch for summer?

Just curious, what is the design/words on it? Can't quite make it out.

If you're not morally opposed to "artificial" they make some very realistic fern bushes that would look good there. I don't care to have artificial blooms in the house, but I do have some silk ferns in places that wouldn't support life.

Oh! Curly_kate you took a selfie! Did anyone else see her in the mirror?

Love the case, a unique piece for sure. Whatever you put in the bottom nook, i might leave the christmas lights down there, it looks cool!

So lucky, I may look into some fake plants. I wonder if I could do some fakes and mix in some real greens or flowers.. Definitely something to consider.

And the curls are there. They're always there....

I feel for ya Kate - I've got curls too... and yes, they are ALWAYS there..... :/

I was thinking that the bottom would be a nice spot for some 'antique' books on plants/gardening or garden tools - maybe some good, rusted, oldies from a junk shop.. with the top full of seasonal plants. Maybe with some old seed packs sticking out like row markers....
