Wishin's New Baby

I can send you another one. :thumbsup
I am so happy mine made it. This winter was COLD, I was freaking out, I had no where to baby it, I called and e-mailed the Burbank gardens and asked them how to properly care for it. They wouldn't answer my e-mail, and over the phone they said "ask a master gardener"

I asked seven, none of them knew what to do with it or even what it was. I called and e-mailed them again, telling them the master gardeners didn't know.

I got an e-mail that said ask some more.

I decided it wouldn't survive in the house, it is old (which means very very cold), plus no light anywhere, so it sat outside and had to suck it up. Every now and again I went out and gave it a little scratch to see if it was still alive. I still can't believe it made it.:celebrate:celebrate:celebrate

Cold won't bother it Wishin. Raspberries when dormant can handle temps well below freezing. I can't believe nobody could give you an answer. You told them it was a raspberry right?

I'm pretty surprised at the lack of response you got Wishin. Them being gardeners, you would think they would love to talk gardening and share with you how to take care of your plant.

The woman who is in charge of the gardens was very nice and cordial when I met her. She also always answered my emails promptly. Maybe you talked to someone else. Sorry you had a bad experience with them.

Blackberry, yes. I told them what it was and gave them a good idea of their history, where I got them from, the climate these particular plants are used to ect.

Oh, it's a blackberry. I think they don't have as much cold hardiness as raspberries, but still can handle freezing temps when dormant.
And thank you very much Wishin' :)
I'll definitely baby it.

Wow I had to wipe my eyes:hitI never expect people to remember what they promised last week let alone anything longer than that!!! :ep Mary you are indeed remarkable!
I ship plants sometimes to my sisters in NY and and when I do I do the same box thing but I also cut a piece of cardboard the size of the inside of the box and remove a strip a little bigger than the stem of the plant I put that over the top of the pot and then put the boards. I don't wrap the actual plant, and I write fragile glass on the outside so they don't toss it or anything.
congrats on the find, and even more on your reliability. very inspiring:thumbsup

please put me in your line if you have anything not spoken for. I have a small grove of the thornless blackberries and love them
