How many Have One of These ?

When people got tired of spitting grape seeds and using that raisin seeder.
No one gets tired of spitting grape seeds -- just like watermelon seeds -- but using that raisin seeder would get old quickly.

Seedless fruit were created because the Elite didn't like seeing seeds being spit, not because they didn't enjoy the challenge of record spitting themselves.

OK guys... the raisins are from Thompson's seedless grapes and now there are hundreds of thousands of acres of them grown in Cal. for the world's supply of raisins . The workers use rolls of brown paper and cut the paper into "paper trays", cut the very ripe grapes with high sugar content and place them onto the trays, set them down on the ground between the rows to dry in the sun. Later, when the grapes are dehydrated, a crew comes along and wraps the now raisins in the paper trays and put them into tractor pulled bins to take them to a processing plant for destemming, sorting and packaging, labeling, storing and then shiping.

Wow see I can no longer can eat raisins as I do not have a thyroid anymore :hide
I use to enjoy them... but can still spit a watermelon seed pretty darn good:lol:

So you are saying that the California grape growers put 2 industries out of business? The manufacturers of raisen de-seeders and those employed to de-seed raisens? The communists!!!

if it isn't raining tomorrow all day:hide

Raisins add to the chance of brewing a successful batch of beer. It doesn't take much. The yeast is probably happier starting with a cup of cooked raisins than even with the malt syrup.

There is a minor theory that civilization began as a result of grapes. The dirt-poor farmer could probably grow grapes on stony, inferior soil well enough. However, he/they needed others to provide them with additional food, either in trade or gifts.

For their beverages, others would gather. The vintners would eschew most human interaction like marriage and devote themselves to a life of service to the community.

Thanks, Bob, for taking all the romance and mystique out of raisins.:(

So grapes lie out in the open to dry? What if a flock of birds flies over and poops on them? Nosiree! I want my raisins properly mechanically harvested, dried and packaged so they will be clean! Workers? Did they wash their hands? Wear gloves? Carry Kleenex for those runny noses?
