It's going to feel so good when you finish with this. I know I have some boxes too to go through but I just haven't the energy to do it yet.

Mary

DB and DS are fixing the garage roof before it starts raining and he wants to move things off the outside wall of the garage. I have just been putting this off for too long.

Left for vacation while it was summer, came back to fall! We got lucky and missed out on any bad weather from Irma. She came along about 2 days after we headed for home. The owner of the house had us secure a few things from threat of high water before we left and video the property. I didn't have wifi down there, so I've got some catching up on reading here. Hopefully I'll get a little quiet me time to do so tomorrow. :p

The garden was winding down pretty much when I left. Almost all of my beans are drying out seed now. Got a couple grocery bags of peppers and a few more tomatoes. I'm going to be clearing out as much as possible this next week and get a cover crop mix going. Missed the window on most of the fall crops I wanted, but I'll do what I still can, radishes, lettuce, etc. Still have lots of glorious zinnias and fancy sunflowers and borage blooming. Makes me so happy! :love I saved lots of sunflower seed.

The jar in the back is full of cucumber seeds I saved from "Muncher". Don't know if they'll come back true, but figured it was worth a try. The little orange pots have a few of the Tiger Lilies I got from @Zeedman beginning to sprout up. Some I sowed in an out of the way spot in light mulch, but I think the cat scratched around in those. :\These in the pots I cold stratified in the fridge until I saw baby roots emerge, then planted thickly in sterile soiless medium.

DD was having some trouble about feeling her dad was in heaven and not thinking about her and even remembering her, and that if we do not remember each other down here then we are just some empty souls walking around up there. I told her I believe we know each other. I do not believe DH is up there having a party not thinking about his baby girl. I also believe the end of time is coming. I believe we will all be together soon. She just really did not pay attention to me, but she saw the pastor at church and without her saying anything to him or mentioning how she felt, he just said that he believes her dad is in heaven waiting for us, and that we will all know each other when we get there. It is actually different kind of than what he said at the funeral about DH was not watching or caring what was going on, so for him to just out of the blue say the words she needed to hear, was something else. She is happier. DS believes we will all be together soon. If DH had died suddenly, I believe his kids and me would be sedated in the hospital right now. We are a very close family and having over 2 years of knowledge of his illness and seeing how he was suffering we were somewhat prepared. The house does not seem lonely like it did when he first got sick and was going to the hospital for a week or 2 at a time. It was horrible.
The suffering does not last long in our minds once they are gone. By that I mean I always thought that would give me solace once my brothers were gone. But the missing does not really end. We just learn to live without them.
I don't know how old your kids are but children are very in tune with spirits. My kids saw and talked to my brother for a long time after he died. They were very little. And they were not afraid. Your kids may experience this.

I've heard @thistlebloom wants to throw out her vacuum. No I haven't seen the funny on FB.

I googled and it and people said you didn't have to blanch so I didn't. I don't think that would affect the water retention though.

Are your green beans watery? Maybe I'll blanch them next time. I think @Beekissed doesn't blanch either. Bee?

Mary
My blanched green beans are watery. My MIL used to freeze in white boxes like they do in the stores and hers were great. I do not know how she froze them-why did I never ask??

No not watery at all. DD likes them almost tough or crisp and she steams them, but DS and I like them well done and I boil them. Most vegetables I steam, but green beans I just do not want them firm, so maybe mine are watery and yours are tough in my crazy way of thinking. Do you think canned green beans are watery? If you do then my green beans are water. lol

My kids are 24 and 18, but I know exactly what you mean about children and spirits. I believe animals do too. Very odd thing happened after he died. Within the hour, I was on the phone calling his brother and mother, and DS said the cats are going nuts. I never saw them act like that other than how cats will stare at something not there. They were meowing and running around like they saw something. Then, it stopped. I have lost both parents and I just felt different with them. I think kids and I wanted answers of what is happening, does he know us, will we all know each other in heaven. I guess I already believed that with other people, but I think DD and I wanted our protector watching out for us. I wanted to see my handsome husband with a mustache about the age of 45 and she wanted her daddy to be worrying about her, loving her, wanting to see her. I know we will not be husband and wife in heaven and I realize I am not going to see a 45-year-old man with salt and pepper hair and a mustache. DD is not going to have a daddy in heaven, but if we know each other and God has promised it will all be good, so I trust him we will be happy. I feel God protected DH through all of this cancer. He did not die skinny, never threw up, no diarrhea. They said his hair would not grow back and it did. He took all the treatments and went to work. When he could not work, he mentally did not care anymore and just ate, slept, watched TV. The way God protected us with money, friends, etc. We never went without and then the words the pastor spoke to DD to bring her relief. Even for me and DS. We feel relief DH is not suffering and we both feel he is close. We have both thought I wonder what dad wants for supper and then realize and the house does not feel lonely. I went to the grocery store by myself and felt so lonely I about cried, but yesterday went with DS to the store and was fine, but I can be home alone here and I am fine. When he was first diagnosed and in the hospital, I could not sleep, the bedroom was so lonely, I could not eat, but I will never be the same. I know that. He will always be on my mind. Mother, father, brother, sister, husband and wife, just too close to never see each other again in heaven. Thank you for the story of your brother.

Beans are rated for the best ones for freezing or canning.

I picked slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, sauce tomatoes, big tomatoes, small tomatoes, red tomatoes, orange tomatoes, and those black Vernissage tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, green beans, peppers and gave to different people. DD invited me over for hamburgers at her house and DB and DS came. I took some tomatoes and DB said to DD, where did you BUY this nice tomato and DD said Mom, and he goes OH. LOL Trying to do clean up and getting ready for fall. A low of 39 for tomorrow night and lost track of how many days of no rain. Set record days ago of 74 days of no rain and record broke was from 100 years ago 1917.
