The outdoor activity market and the housing market is coming together ... and, it won't be around the golf course.

Golfing is in decline, market analysts have been telling us for sometime. Some golf courses have been converted. To what? Farms.

Yeah, the turf of a southern California golf course has been replaced by olive trees! It's a small part of a housing development trend designed to attract the biggest market for new homes: the Millennials.

I think it's a wonderful trend. I'm starting to see more gardening by young people especially those with children. The farm to table is big here. Our pricey real estate may have tiny yards but a lot of people are planting veggies, especially tomatoes. I'm proof that you can pack a lot into a tiny yard. Now if I only had room to grow our Halloween pumpkins without sacrificing something else.

@ninnymary Agree, the more people connect with their food, the better it is. Takes away the power from those pushing agendas. We need to support and help them.

Tennis used to be the game off the rich, it has been replaced by golf. The town tried to do a farmers market on Saturday was a big failure. house keepers who do all the food shopping like indoor supermarkets much better.

With tiny houses to go with it perhaps?

Wish I could say it was the trend around here. All of the best farm land has been made into subdivisions. You have to go pretty far out a dirt road to find a good chunk of land. My dad's farm is near good road frontage, so if we do decide to sell it, I expect it will sell well.

I read on a local genealogy page the other day that this county had over 2000 small dairies back in the 1950's. Not a one left today, except 1 goat milk dairy.

The National Golf Foundation says that the percent of golfers between the ages of 18 and 34 was 14% in the early 90's and is 9% now.

I watched nice farms bought up and turned into golf courses. Not only the facility but the neighborhood developed a sense of exclusion.
