I lost 2 hybrid teas this year. My K.O.s were planted last year and came back well. Aphids did a good amount of damage. Fed them as soon as the good weather stuck around, mulched them and they are doing well.

Didn't think the aphids would touch the K.O. roses but guess I was wrong. So now its a weekly aggressive spray treatment to keep them doing well so they can continue to establish themselves.

View attachment 25815 View attachment 25816 We recently moved and my roses did not take to well to it. One especially. At first I thought it was just the shock of the move but it has been 2 months.I made the beds up like I did at the old house sane dirt and fertalizer. They get the right amout of sun and are not soggy. How do I save my beauties?

if anyone comes along later to read this thread...

when transplanting many plants it helps to make sure that the roots are roughly balanced with what is up above as you don't want the stems and leaves at the top to put more demand upon the roots than what they can supply. and when moving a plant you are disrupting many of the fine root hairs where much of the water and nutrients are coming from (along with the soil community around the roots). so to prune it back up top is the basic step you want to do.

there are different types of plants and so different types of pruning for them.

roses (as mentioned elsewhere in this thread) may be grafted onto different root stock so you need to make sure you don't prune off the grafted on part (but if it is dead anyways then you'll need to replace the whole plant if the rootstock blooms aren't acceptable).

if you have a lot of aphid problems use biological controls or other methods. poisons don't solve the problem and they create other problems over the longer term.

We certainly have no remose over pruning the roses as they are better than ever. They will get the same pruning in the spring going forward.

I agree Jack. Most people don't prune their roses hard enough and they get all full of criss-crossing branches and diseased canes, just an ugly mess.

Jack your beds look so neat do you hire help or do yourself ?
Alex,
We are "old school" and do everything around the house ourselves. Theresa is out there early in the morning tending her flowers and I do the yard and garden. I just finished mowing in this heat and I am soaking wet. Gawd, this is AWFUL!!
