There is next year.

I imagine that I can pretty much see into every neighbor's backyard. It's not really true but there's satellite imagery ;). No clothes hanging on lines to dry.

My washer's load of towels will be out there soon. Drivers-by and people on sidewalk would have to look just at the right moment to see them, hanging under the deck roof. If there were white clothes, they'd be behind the towels. More discreet that way ...

Not sure if I should bother. The last 2 times I hung jeans out, they had to be brought in later to hang over the backs of chairs. It was a windy 69°f yesterday afternoon. There was a brief hailstorm followed by a briefer sprinkling of rain. The furnace has run 4x since I got up at 3:30 and it's 41°, outdoors.

Only a short while ago, a double-hung line full of clothes would dry in 2 hours on that shady deck. So ... it's supposed to be a clear-sky day with little wind, worth it to hang those heavy towels out ...

My mother did the laundry for 2 adults and 4 kids without a close dryer. Most of the year hung on outside line. Winter line in basement. Anytime as a teenager I bought up subject of getting a close dryer she wouldn't hear of it. After all kids moved out and it was just mom and dad a friend was moving and selling small portable dryer. It needed no special hook up plug into any outlet. I waited till my parents went out and put the dryer next to washing machine and left. The next day my mother called me screaming to come get machine she did not want it. It took her a couple of weeks to break down and use, but once she did never went back to line drying

We almost always hung our clothes on the line. Mom told stories of stacking frozen diapers up to bring in and finish drying. She had 3 kids in diapers at the same time.

I hung my clothes out on the line until Luke came and I had to displace the clothesline. Still haven't got it back up...there's no convenient, sunny place to put it, and no, don't want it on the front lawn.

I had a line years ago but it had to go when the goats came. Once the goats were gone.. I just never got around to putting it back up. This past July I put one up and have enjoyed hanging clothes out.
There is something about toting a basket of clean laundry out - smelling the mixture of detergent and 'outdoors' - looking out the window and seeing them blowing in the breeze - giving them that 'snap' shake (spiders ya know) before folding them and dropping them in the basket - then toting that basket of clean, fresh, warm clothes back inside... I guess it carries me back - or maybe forward - to a simpler time that I wish I had.

it's been into the high 40sF overnight once so far, but i'm sure that low 40s is coming sometime in the next month... i just hope we can hold off the hard frosts for a while and perhaps the lima beans will be able to have another crop. i hoped for this last year too... :)

we have drying racks we use for clothes outside. Mom didn't want to put up poles. in the winter we use the racks inside. the air gets so dry when it's cold from the furnace that the added moisture is welcome.

Well, inspite of my First World Problem with TV, I didn't have a dryer for the first 9 months we lived here. I hung things outside or inside if it was too cold. Even with a dryer now, I still like to hang things out. They smell so good! (well, not when it was so smokey)
