This is a strange year. Planted corn/beans on 3/3/20. Friend planted 4/3. Another person planted 4/14. All at same point of emergence.

today while pulling weeds and hoeing the soil in the raised beds,,the soil moved did a investigation it was a baby black snake, guess it was looking for a warm spot to ride out this little cold snap...

last year when we were having the roof put on found a copperhead between the underpinning block and the drain pipe, it was dispatched. that was the first one I've seen in 20+ years here.

this spring while renovating the raised bed area found 3 baby copperheads while removing the old wood...

it's amazing how people freak over thinking every snake is poisonous and kill them... shame people dont spend the time to educate themselves on identifying the difference between good and bad snakes...

You clean your gun?!?!? THAT often?!?!?
DH doesn't.

With me it depends on how often I'm using it. When I was cleaning rabbits out of my garden I was shooting two or three every day. I did not clean it that often, probably every other day until I was finished. But when I finally shot that groundhog I did not expect to use it again immediately so it got a deep cleaning.

For poisonous snakes I don't shoot them, usually a garden hoe works well. Why waste the ammunition and have to clean a gun. Besides the garden hoe or maybe shovel is usually a lot handier. I don't want to lose the poisonous snake while getting the tool.

I do consider it an essential skill to be able to identify poisonous versus non-poisonous snakes.

2 mornings in row we hit 33* last nights chill toasted the tops of the basil pinched them off, fried 2 diplomat, 2 marketmore cukes. finished off the yellow squash, they never did look good after transplanting, so had the brilliant idea to pick up a couple at tractor supply, picked the 2 best containers each one had 5 sprouts, so tickled the roots and replanted them.

have a couple marketmores that never made it into the ground so covered on the one, will start more melon seeds later for a sept crop....

but other wise everyone else is looking good....
