GMA just had a segment about a chicken shortage - for fast food restaurants. Some mom & pops can't open due to shortage of the chicken parts that they use.

Last year there were bare shelves of chicken; this year not so much. Good thing one entire shelf in my upright not frost free freezer is full of chicken. Good thing Bay is growing and selling her own!

CBS news had a segment that new car prices have been rising (+8%), due to a shortage in parts, namely the computer chips.
Computer chips fit into an interesting problem, as they are REALLY tied to how China is doing. No just because they make a lot of them but because the rare earth metals we need for them are almost exclusively found and mined there. It's the reason why I have serious doubts that the U.S. (and indeed the Western world) will EVER go on full war with China not matter WHAT they do. They only have to stop exports of the metals, and out ability to wage high-tech war crumbles (and they have too many people and too much military for a low tech war to work out in or favor).

The shortage of new cars has driven up the price of used cars.
In spite of the higher prices, used cars are vanishing off the lots. DW & I drove past the dealer where we've purchased our last two vehicles; they have maybe 1/3 of their normal inventory.

I suspect a lot more people will be looking to get their cars repaired rather than replaced, even for more costly repairs such as engines. It could be a boom year for mechanics.

also with a lot of people getting stimulus money if they've needed a car and have been holding off because they didn't have enough money, well now they do so there goes the increase in demand and then higher prices... not counting shortage of newer cars pushing others into the used car market.

the neighbor down the road is selling his Mom's used 'lectric car and if i needed a car i'd definitely take a look at it since i doubt i can afford a new one anyways, but i don't need a car right now (nowhere to store one and certainly not worth paying someone else for storage).

The term being used nowadays is Reflation.

"It is important not to confuse reflation with inflation. Firstly, reflation is not bad. It is a period of price increases when an economy is striving to achieve full employment and growth."

"Inflation, on the other hand, is often considered bad as it is characterized by rising prices during a period of full capacity. G.D.H. Cole once said, "reflation may be defined as inflation deliberately undertaken to relieve a depression."
