One use, for Sure...it looks pretty in the garden. I can grow it With rainbow swiss chard, which I don't eat, just for some color.
I Think the green basil is Globe and the purple basil is Crimson King.
The purple looks like somebody painted Globe with a purple Sharpie.

I have waited to talk about the plants I brought in, bc they Can get sick and die when you least expect it.
That being said, Here are the plants I am babysitting this winter.
1) Mum (failure)
I had a leaf on this, then let it dry out. Questionable whether it has survived or if it's compost

3) I started these sweet peppers in a plastic container repurposed, NO drainage holes, outside, moved it around, Never transplanted them, until right before a frost last Fall, then put them on top of a heating mat and under a gro light.
I started them from seed LAST SUMMER. when the sweet pepper seeds I had started ALL failed, and I had this one old package, so...
(BTW, the gro light for the top shelf is pink, so everything looks pink, even the white gro light above the peppers.)
The first group of peppers just got a plastic humidity cover. I might be transplanting the others and using those plastic sleeves I just removed from the herbs.

4) Citronella
This was the novelty buy from 2021. It was in a hanging plastic pot, and needed transplanting. It LOVES being next to the south facing basement window. Dunno WHAT I'm going to do with it! I need to study up to see:
(a) if it wants to be a bush
(b) if I can divide it next summer
These are Both growing on the 1/2 of an old, red covered kitchen counter in the basement. It has a sink, with countertop on both sides, and cabinets underneath for storage.
Plant Doesn't ask for much attention, so it lives.Citronella, 01-12-22.jpg

5) White grape, growing next to the Citronella
&
6) Concord grape #1, growing next to
7) Concord grape #2, both by the west facing basement window.
DD's gave me a particle board round table (brand new) with very secure folding legs. I gave it a couple of coats of water seal before I brought it in for a plant table, then covered it with an old, plastic table cover
I brought the 3 baby grapes in last November, two are on the new plant table. Old plant table will soon be recycled, metal to recycle metal storage, particle board top to be burned...soon.
Pay attention to what SIZE grape you buy! All of these had shallow roots and I didn't dare put them in the ground.
The hope was that this winter they would put on some decent roots growing in the cool basement, ~50 degrees or more, cool but not cold, and then I will transplant them next Fall.
I checked them this morning.
LEAF GROWTH !!!!!!!

Just so you Know, all 3 of these pots had NO drainage holes when I bought them. I made drainage holes for them, first on the porch with a candle that warmed up a bolt, then I made holes in the blue pots with a short piece of rebar heated up by a fire in my outdoor firepit.
It isn't hard, just wear leather gloves and be prepared to really heat up the metal and press down on an upside down pot.

Yes, purple basil is so very pretty. Which is why I grew it again this year for one more time to see if it would grow on me. Something about that anise flavour puts throws me, but if you like anise or even licorice taste you'll love it.
