Do you mean that you separated out the black-seeded Dakota Bumble from the rest? If so, I am very curious to see what they produce. They have a very pretty flower.

@meadow, I planted all Dakota Bumble colors (black, white and motley à la Jacob's Cattle) in separate rows.
There was only one white seed in the sample I got from Great Lakes Staple Seeds. Last year, I planted it at home in a pot, and now I had a dozen seeds at my disposal.

How interesting! The other colors in Dakota Bumble are red, red motley, and a white with black eye (maybe there are others?). If you would like a packet from the original source (Prairie Road Organics), I would be happy to send one to you.

i have flower buds on my first Purple Dove beans outside, plus i also have flower buds on the plants i have in the pots. i don't have mature pollen source flowers yet, but should be soon.

the Fort Portal Jade plants are semi-runners when grown in good conditions, but i've never had them get very high when i've grown them outside. in pots and planted when i did one is already long enough to go searching for a support so this morning Mom told me my bean plant had made a friend with the lawn mower by wrapping around the handle.

a few minutes ago i got my teepees for the two pots set up and i hope they'll work...

in out-in-the-garden bean news my Conserva beans are either being topped by chipmunks or the seeds were not properly developed, they were not old enough where seed age or poor storage should have been an issue. i think i do have a few plants that have survived, but i won't know if i get any fresh seeds for quite some time - a long ways to go yet.

a few other beans are taking their time germinating but i won't give up on them yet. if any fail i can always poke in other seeds of the quicker sorts i have which is a nice answer to that issue when it does come up. luckily it doesn't seem to be a big problem yet. i do worry about the animals getting at the beans but it seems that even if i'm worried and paranoid most beans will grow for me - they may not all be super productive or great looking beans as a result but they do grow. the challenge is always to find out which are the most finicky beans and getting them planted in the better conditions they want.

i took today off from almost all gardening activities and gave my feet a rest, the morning rains were very nice and gave me the excuse to listen to what my feet were telling me. tomorrow i hope i can get out early enough and get this last garden planted now that it is as prepped as i'm going to get it for this season. one or two mornings... i hope.

Did a major watering of the bean gardens tonight in anticipation of some major heatwave warning the weather network has been sending out alerts for today, warning about tomorrow and the next day. The 'real feel' rating is set for 38 C/100 F but we'll see. The weather nerds have been wrong a great deal thus far. I wore my winter parka jacket (hood up!) for the hours it took to water everything because the mosquitoes were nuts.

I am feeling really great about all my network beans so far. They are all looking really good, and many have already reached to 4 feet, though some are tangling together instead of climbing so I did some untangling tonight where I noticed it. I'll have to have a more thorough look through this week. The runner beans and more of the bush beans are setting flowers too. Even the Ukrainian Comrades that wound up getting planted next to a my flooded swamp all came up perfect, to my surprise.

@Bluejay77 is there any circumstance under which you allow more than 4 plants on a pole? It will soon be time to cull any extras that I planted in the ground and I can feel my inner hogzilla already trying to come up with reasons why I should let this pole have 5.....it is a small bean....Is there any exceptions to the 4 to a pole rule for you? All the bigger seeded beans I planted, like Jembo Polish and Berta Telaska , I put only 3 plants to a pole just in case the large seeds have a longer maturity. But I wonder if smaller seeded beans could go the other way a little?

Wow, I thought Dakota Bumble seeds only come in the three colors I have. Of course, I would like the original seed pack from Prairie Road Organics. I'm happy to send you something back.

@Artorius your beans look fantastic! Are those supports made from small tree saplings? On the four legged tree pyramids, how many beans do you plant?

I made these supports from wooden poles, mostly maple ones. Now I plant 4-5 common beans and 2 runner beans next to them. Before, I had planted more, but it was getting a terrible thicket and I invited various fungal diseases in this way.
