AMKuska's 2023 Garden

I planted Charapita, Piazinho, and Grandpa's Siberian Home peppers. Last year I started most of my peppers in February, which was far too late for the hot peppers and way too early for the sweet peppers. Hopefully this head start will help the hot ones to thrive. I also started some Rainbow Treasure Strawberry seeds. Strawberries never seem do well for me, but perhaps this new 'edible ornamental' cultivar will produce fruit.

I'm very interested in those Siberian hots! I bet a hot pepper from a cold climate would do well out here. I just ordered a package of them to see how they do!! Let me know how the strawberries get on.

They're all off the heat now. Everyone is emerged except the apocalypse peppers. I decided to dissect one of them to see if they were moldy or something, and found a tiny little rootlet sticking out. I reburied it and have chalked it up to being a slow grower. Even if they decide not to grow at all I think 9 healthy plants out of 12 is a good start.

On another front, my husband says my Christmas present this year is gardening related!!! I'm so excited. What do you think it will be?!

That could be!! He said it would help me with growing things. It's heavy and it jingles like there's metal in it. I just can't wait! Last gardening related gift was my grow tent, and I use it every year!

If anyone is looking for a Christmas gift for themselves, I would suggest splurging on the reusable propagation trays from Modern Grower. A friend shared some with me last year, and we both liked them so much we ordered more of all three sizes (the small 6-cells, and two different sizes of 4-cells). By teaming up we could order the large lot of each size, which brought the price down and made them affordable. They are lifetime products and easy to rinse out and reuse. Best of all they stack. I have 2' high stacks right inside my basement door, taking up almost no space at all. They are so sturdy I think you could stack them 4' high without them tipping over. I just love them.
