good afternoon all,
it has been an interesting time since going dark. anyway hope everyone is healthy and chomping at the bit to get their hands dirty this year. don't know about you but I'm ready for this crazy winter to be over!!!!!!!
as for the gardens no new raised beds and no plans for expansion<yet> had wonderful season last year and yes a couple disappointments, this year only have a couple experiments planed, going to try growing Brussel sprouts again and going to try growing a avocado tree, yes I'm a bit north to grow one but if i can grow kiwi heck it's worth a try. I did order a couple plum trees they should be here late april as well...love a good plum off the tree, it shall be interesting to see if the avocado produces...

had a wonderful fall garden did only 3 covered beds, they did really good till the first hard frost in late December

@majorcatfish I'm so glad to see you! My husband and I are planning to move to either North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia. Since you live in one of those, I was hoping you could let me know what the gardening is like out there.

Although--now that you're here I just realized I can snoop your past threads and see for myself.

live in north carolina, just north of greensboro, anyone of those states are nice nc and sc are ranked in the top 10 states people are moving too. have you and hubby been looking in certain areas?

gardening here goes from mid april to the first hard freeze< with a hoop house> winters are really wield we could get bad winter storms with snow and ice and then theres this winter cold rainy w/ only a couple hard freezes and a snow storm that lasted 20 mins.....

We're not looking in specific areas beyond state right now. We look in Zillow for houses with at least an acre, less than the value of our current home, but with one more bedroom. Everything is so much cheaper over there! I can definitely deal with that kind of weather. A bit of snow doesn't bother me.

from feb 26th
decided to remove the plastic we were able to pick some greens, radishes and spinach
IMG_0158.JPG
to our surprise found 2 heads of lettuce the rest was weeds
IMG_0157.JPG
the carrot tops were pretty much dead had to run my hands though the soil to find them
IMG_0161.JPG
the only thing that really survived was the elephant garlic.

heres the kicker i only grew it back sometime between 2013-15 the last couple years since rebuilding the beds thought it was some type of weed so kept running the weedeater over it. and it's still growing in the corner, guess i missed a corm. elephant garlic has a very interesting life cycle...
IMG_0242.JPG
spent the last couple weekends getting the beds ready pulling weeds running mini tiller though them
IMG_0244.JPGIMG_0245.JPG
i even got a gopher when tilling in this bed.....
IMG_0246.jpg
just to show you how crazy this winter has been we had asparagus pop first part of march the wife and i both got 3 each for dinner..
IMG_0190.JPG
waiting on the main garden to dry out a little more before i can run the tiller though there.
