I've been googling but I'm just not using the right keywords and can't find myself a site that lists when you start different veggies for zone 4. If anyone has a favorite site I would REALLY appreciate it. Normally I'm google savy but I think I'm just tired
Thanks so much for posting this question we plant to plant grapes all along our fence this year, and then make wine once they are really producing. I can't wait to see all the info that you get :P
I agree with the fact that it's AWESOME to spend so little on so much even if it is more work. For our family we have plenty of time, and money is something we strive to save as much as possible. Not to mention how wonderful it is to be out there working the land with your hands and knowing...
That is so wonderful!! I'm so happy for you, you should take pictures of your new babies and post the up for us to all praise :D I think we are going to buy a couple apple trees this year too, we wont be able to enjoy them though because we plan to move to our farm as soon as we can sell our...
Last year was our first year planting a garden and we had peas. There is nothing more delicious than snap peas straight off the vine, wiped on your shirt and munched while you are our in the yard. These bits of natures candy are so delicious that while we were out with all our kids the then 3...
The Garlic Festival was in the small town of Howard Lake this year.
Info on the SFA of MN is here http://www.sfa-mn.org/ It seems to be a terrific and informative group of people. We aren't members yet but plan to be soon!! Good luck, it's nice to see other Minnesotans on here where abouts...
Thanks so much Pat! No these are just regular transplants so I will definately wait. I met the author of Square Foot Gardening at our local Garlic Festival (also a get together for the self sustaining farmers of MN) I will definately hit up google for my transplant stuff as well as read my...
Is it too early for me to start planting my tomato seeds into starter pots to have strong large transplants for spring? I'm in Zone 4 (Minnesota) I dont want to be too early but I definately dont want to be too late!
Oh and to add, what other plants should really be planted early for a garden...
Beautiful and tasty looking. I have to say though, I'm also VERY jealous, I'm up in Minnesota, and we just started buying seeds and cant wait to plant. Keep the pictures coming!
I was reading about wonderberries earlier and it said that the berry on them is posionous before it ripens. I was excited to try it until I heard that, with a 4year old, 2 year old, 1 year old and 3 month old it'sa little to dangerous for our yard.
I could be wrong but I think the difference between fruits and veggies is that fruits will ripen off the vine whereas veggies just start to rot. So I dont think they will ripen for you but I could be wrong, it will be interesting to hear what others have to say.
They look like the white icicle (sp?) radishes we planted this year -twice- and it didn't matter how long we left those suckers in they never got bigger than that, we were very disappointed. They definately dont look like any of the red radishes that we planted.
Do you have a recipe then for pickled peppers? I have a TON like bowls and bowls of jalepenos and cayennes that I need to figure out something to do with. Can I freeze them? Anything that requires the least amount of work cause after my husband's car accident I'm really busy with the three...
