The other day Dew brought me what surely must be one of the smallest eggs ever; barely bigger than a quarter. I proceeded to go and have a talk with the chickens about this bit of substandard performance.

My pep talk must have worked because today Dew came from the coop with a bewildered look on her face and showed me this:

:th :ep

I don't know who laid it, but they deserve a prize of some sort. I'm nearly speechless.

hum......

You know, I once had a neighbor who got GREAT enjoyment from teasing the (city) guy on the other side of him.
When 'the city guy' tried to grow a garden, my neighbor would sneak over there and tie ripe tomatoes on his barely sprouted vines..
When 'the city guy' tried to raise hens, my neighbor snuck over there and replaced the eggs with hard boiled..
When 'the city guy' bragged about his new camera and how he was going to get some great wildlife shots, my neighbor snuck over there and set up a target practice dummy deer on the edge of the woods. Poor 'city guy' spent most of a morning taking ever closer and closer pictures of this amazing deer... till he finely got close enough to see the holes...

Yall don't, by any chance, know anyone who had ducks or geese do you?? ;)

When a young hen starts laying or an older hen starts laying after a break you can get these cute little eggs. They are usually just a white but sometimes a yolk is stuffed inside that little thing. So cute.

I have been wondering all afternoon...what does it take for a chicken to lay a 1/4 pound egg?? I wonder if this is one of those egg within an egg thing.
