It was nice that our state passed that new constitutional carry law, despite all attempts to veto it. WV is sort of special that way.

I'm so happy for you! I'm a very good shot, but most of my shooting was as a CW Reenactor, (26 years) and we shot blanks made from cream of wheat and black powder. We drilled before battles and had gun inspections, and it was drilled into ME to know that you could still injure somebody by shooting the blanks directly at them, so I was very careful. I also trained 15 horses over the years to handle gunfire and to ignore shots fired by their rider.
I don't practice with live ammo very often, but I am very accurate. What you want to practice is:
1) safety--ALWAYS assume that you are shooting a person when you shoot, so don't wave a loaded gun
2) be deliberate--take your time to aim
3) relax--practice just squeezing the trigger
4) select a lighter weight weapon and expect some kind of kickback
I was practicing with my DD's shotguns and one of them practically ripped my shoulder off!!
Btw, the AR-15 has practically NO kickback.

@Beekissed , I am for being able to carry, but I'm afraid this new law is going to cause trouble. A lot more people are going to be carrying guns with no training..... I think that is wrong. If you want to carry that is fine, but I still believe you should have to have a saftey course and pass before you should be allowed to carry. I am still going to take the course and get the permit because if I go across the river with my weapon and dont have a permit, I could still be arrested. I hope I am wrong about this new law causing more trouble,,,, but I see a lot more shootings in the future because of this law.
I will not carry my weapon with out a permit or the least a safety course.

You could be right. I was just predicting today that the next "mass" shooting will likely take place in WV...not because of the laxity of the new law, but because it got passed here when the rest of the country is moving towards tighter gun control. They need to stage one in a state like ours to get their point across and scare folks into wanting tighter gun laws.

The State of Wisconsin went concealed carry about 4 years ago. Rather than an increase in shootings, the number has gone down (statistically) significantly. Wisconsin does require training with a certified instructor and a permit, but ex-military are exempt from required instruction.

There is little reason for West Virginia to have problems. Conspiracy advocates assert the Government is hoping for more and worse mass shootings so all guns can be confiscated. Concealed carry is now legal in all but a very few states (although some local governments are making getting permits nearly impossible).

Red, this is not just concealed carry, but constitutional carry...it means they can carry a concealed weapon without a permit, without training.

Last week, two gun rights bills prevailed in the West Virginia Legislature and are now on their way to Governor Tomlin’s desk. SB 347, a constitutional carry bill that would legalize the concealed carry of a handgun without a permit for all individuals in the state age 21 and up who are legally allowed to own firearms, passed the WV House by a margin of 79-21 and was supported by the Senate with 32 for and 2 against. The West Virginia Legislature also voted nearly unanimously in favor of another bill, SB 284, which would require the local chief law enforcement officer to sign off on purchases of Title II items such as fully-automatic weapons and noise suppressors, restricted under the National Firearms Act, for those who have passed background checks.

And the conspiracy folks like myself don't think the government is "hoping for a mass shooting", we believe that the government actually arranges for mass shootings to happen to force an agenda. Yep...it goes that deep.

I'm all for proper training in the use of rifles and handguns, but I feel the $70 for the training course is prohibitive for a lot of people, hindering their right to bear arms in a concealed manner which is safer and less provocative than open carry. A lot of us who are interested in carrying already grew up with our fathers or other relatives teaching us how to responsibly handle a gun. If you are not comfortable handling a gun, then I would take a course anyway, of your own volition, for your own benefit.

The criminals are going to conceal and carry irregardless of the law--without a permit anyway--so I don't believe the new law is going to increase the crime rates at all. Buildings that don't allow open carry may want to screen entrants if they don't already, but basically that has always depended on the assumption that people were law abiding. A little sign by the door is not going to stop a criminal from packing.

The legislative committee who drafted the law should have and may have already studied the difference in any available statistics regarding hunting related firearm accidents since the years they have required the hunter's safety course for persons of a certain age (born on or after January 1, 1975, required for obtaining a hunting license here in WV). I think that would give them a good idea of how this will work out. The criminals will go about their business as usual, but the question to be answered is will no-permit-required concealed carry increase the incidence of tragic firearm accidents? If it didn't make any difference with open carry either, which was already legal, then I would think not.

I'm training her myself Ducks. I was a small arms instructor in the military and have extensive training from both the military and civilian police. She understands the safety aspect of it pretty well now. We are currently working on front sight focus and trigger manipulation. She's starting out on a Ruger LCS9 compact, striker fired semi-auto. It's small, but packs a punch with HP rounds. If she can learn to shoot this weapon accurately, she'll be able to shoot any handgun she picks up with confidence.

I was a little sorry to see the new law passed. While I do believe in the theory of constitutional carry, it has it's drawbacks. The foremost of those is the lack of training. I shudder to think of a bunch of untrained soccer moms running around with a loaded weapon bouncing around in their purse. Add to that the suggestions from their untrained husbands that they always have a round chambered, and well...

That's the difference between knowing if you are really in danger and not in danger!!!!! He did not have a weapon was not charging at her, and was not threatening her. She may have been permitted to carry, but had NO right to pull her weapon. IMO
