Probably on Tuesday, I will attempt to play with them in the chicken tractor. I think I will keep Cherokee in the house while they are out there. I have let him see, smell, and even a lick on the chicks heads! He seems not to be trying to eat them... But still he gets a bit excited when he sees...
Today we got six baby chicks!! 2 Easter Eggers, 2 Black Australorps and 2 Gold Sex Links. They all fit nicely in this tiny box.
For the next few weeks they will need a heat lamp at night to keep them warm.Thankfully this time of year the coop stays nice and warm during the day.
They were...
It is almost finished. Need some wood for a seat. Still looking for something I can get for very little money or FREE!
Here it is all painted.

The foot is a bit different now... I painted the toenails white, and put some "highlight" dry brush strokes on the blue scroll type...
Not yet... I am going to wait until I get back from visiting my daughter in Eagle CO in mid July. I will be getting chicks, and in July there will be no need for a heat lamp in the coop. I probably have to worry more about them getting cooked!
I have Dichondra,
and a bit of a really nice ground cover I got from a neighbor. Don't know the name of it, it grows very close to the ground, and spreads nicely between the stones, once it gets going....
and this one takes full sun, unlike the dichondra, which really likes it better in the...
If you remember a while back I made a couple of trellises out of an old baby crib http://www.theeasygarden.com/threads/new-trellis-idea.18821/#post-252188
The Clematis I replanted seems to be happy in that spot!
I hope as the weather warms up it will cover the trellis.
Oh my how wonderful!!! I have wanted a water collection system here for so long. But being we usually get less then 12 inches of water for the whole year, my husband says it is just not "cost effective". I'd use all the water I collected off the roof in a week of watering my garden.
But...
Years ago my husband built some protective PVC and chicken wire covers for my planters. They work great as a Chicken Play yard. I won't have chicks until much later in the summer, due to a trip to CO to see my daughter in July. But I am getting things ready slowly but surely.
I came up with...
Almost a year ago now a neighbor was throwing away this old four poster bed.
I loved it, it had ball and claw feet even!
Well, on Monday work finally began to make it into a garden bench for my new "Chicken TV" patio.
The supports for a seat are now finished.
And yesterday I put a...
I have been working a bit in the backyard. These old sides of a baby crib used to be part of my chicken run.
Now I am using them as a support for some vines.
I have moved this Clematis vine from the front yard where it was
getting too much summer sun. It appears to be happy in it's new...
I start brushing a puppy teeth as soon as they become part of the family. It just becomes a part of the daily routine.
After experiencing vet bills from bone accidents, (round steak bone, stuck behind the bottom canine teeth and over the bottom jaw on my poodle, when I was a kid, and broken...
Every night I brush Cherokee's teeth before we go to bed. He comes into the bathroom, and goes behind the guest towels, just stands there for a bit, then slowly emerges playing a sort of "peek a boo" with me.
