    Indoor Planting Tomato's

The top on the tank is wire mesh. The tank is an old reptile tank, which is not the heavy glass aquarium. Any closer to the lights and the plant tops would burn off. I'll change the lighting to a different bulb. bob

    Indoor Planting Tomato's

Those are 40 watt incandescent bulbs. I could go to a softer bulb, one of those swirlie kind. bob

    Indoor Planting Tomato's

Picked them up higher to the light at 3", plant tops may be a tad closer. I do blow at them or brush the tops from an article I read that says it will strengthen them. I'm using 40 watt bulbs. How soon do I have to lower them? bob

    Indoor Planting Tomato's

This is my first time trying to start tomato seeds indoors before planting season. I'm using a shallow 40 gallon fish tank with an overhead light. Seeds are planted in one of those starter trays you get from walmart or any garden center. Not one of those peat pellet type's you need to soak...

    HeartNut Tree

Now if we can only find someone who grows the HeartNut tree to find out first hand, that would be helpful. I also want to order a pair of those tree's myself. One thing I noticed is that it can grow to 50' and the spread is quite big and can achieve 98'. bob

    HeartNut Tree

I found that site also. I like the fact of being cold hardy and more disease resistant than the english walnut. When I started I was more interested in the english walnut and being a member of the arbor day foundation where you can buy the english tree I asked them a bunch of questions about...

Carpathian English Walnut - Juglans regia 'Carpathian'

That was interesting information that I didn't know. It pays to ask questions from owners. I read that seedling tree's take longer to produce their fruit versus a grafted. I'll make note of root stock grafted tree's and ask questions before I buy. I did read also about the black walnut roots...

Apple Tree's - When To Prune

I would agree that completely composted material would be beneficial, but I've read somewhere that using manure around fruit trees would cause the fruit to absorb the manure's un-beneficial properties and could pose a health risk.

Apple Tree's - When To Prune

The photo was taken in the evening and they do get at least 6 hours of full sun. Last late fall they were supposed to be moved from my garden area to a better location but I lost my help and they had to remain where they are for this summer. I do know to prune and move apple trees during their...

Apple Tree's - When To Prune

A little over 3 years ago my daughter surprised me for my birthday with 2 apple trees. I could have sworn she told me one was a "Gala" & the other a "Red Delicious". I asked her today if she remembered what they were and she thought they were a Mackintosh and a Red Delicious. I guess she...

Using straw on the BOTTOM of raised beds

For those who have chickens if using their waste mixture of hay/chicken poop would be too much as a fill below a layer of soil to act as a fertilizer. bob
