    Stinging nettle everywhere! Help?

We have stinging nettle here too. Lots of it. It came in a load of hay for the horses many years ago. From the horse manure it has spread to every part of the property, especially in the flower beds and big veggie garden where the manure was tilled in. I do pick the tender green tops in spring...

Photo Posting Guide - Avatars, too!

Spicy Chicken ...please be patient. There is more to gardening than posting pictures. When you plant a seed you have to wait a while to enjoy the plant. And newbie sprouts like us have to be checked out in case we're actually bad weeds disguised as flowers.

    Winter Squash!

Your buttercups look completely different than mine. Mine are deep green with just a blush of orange. The flesh is dark orange almost like pumpkin and soooooo delicious mashed with butter or used for pies too. I wish I knew how to upload pics I have of mine. My old Mac computer doesn't seem to...

    OK.....Let's get this "puppy" airborne......

Oh I see. LOL. I couldn't picture someone being that nerdy about compost.(OOPS ... I forgot about my good friend Dave) He's THAT nerdy about every detail in his garden, including his compost. After I read a few responses I kinda figured it was an inside thing. I know that getting ones fingers...

    OK.....Let's get this "puppy" airborne......

I have lots of feathers in my coop bedding right now too. I can't imagine sifting through the soiled bedding to cut them in half though. The bedding goes out to a debris pile on the property and the chickens scratch and dig through it until it is all aerated and spread out.

New and improved way to make pumkin pie.

We grow buttercup squash every year. Our favorite for savory cooking but my sister uses it for her "pumpkin pies". You'd never know the difference.

    Soil & Carrots

Our garden soil is sandy and well manured but with potato sized cobblestones throughout. We usually get a good crop of carrots in there and this year looks good too. I always save used coffee grounds and put a good bunch into the seed rows before I put the seed in, It stops carrot worms totally...

Not a single green pepper this year!

Just pulled the last few peppers yesterday. Nice crisp green peppers. The funny part is we had a cold damp lousy summer with only one hot spell during August. And we're up in the Pacific Northwest. It has been a weird weather year for everyone I think.

    Tomato Sandwich

The best sandwich combo with PB is Cheez Whiz spread. And Cheez Whiz with tomato is good too, but I just can't make the leap o'faith to PB and tomato. I'd try tahini and tomato maybe.

This ought to be a good one.....who is from BYC??

We're up in Pacific Northwest (British Columbia) and I would normally be putting garlics in about now but we are having a lot of rain right now. If we get a nice dry spell in early October I'll plant then. I like the soil to be warm and dry for about a week after I plant them and spread a nice...

This ought to be a good one.....who is from BYC??

My garden is semi-communal as we live on 3+ acres in my sister/BILs' rental cabin, they're in the the big log house and our elderly mom lives here too and loves her veggies and fruit. The veggie garden used to be a horse paddock so big and fenced and well manured by the remaining horses. BIL...

The last few years I have grown a variety of different winter squash but buttercups are my favorite. I make sure to leave the stems as long as possible to dry up like an umbilical cord, or else...
