    My new lettuce gutters!

I don't remember where I found the picture! Just kinda saw it and went, oh hey! I love the idea with using the fish! I've been wanting to experiment with aquaponics. I may just stick to the liquid feed at first. Gotta find out what I can mix with fish. I dont want any 3 eyed fish swimming...

new powermate tiller.... what a letdown

Naughty, another thing you can try is Seafoam, you can buy it at any big box store or ace hardware. Just get the stuff that mixes with the gas, and add it to the gas - if the gas needs to be mixed with oil, still mix it with oil. Then press the primer bulb about 10x. Let it sit for an hr or...

    My new lettuce gutters!

Yes, last year was pretty bad around here. (Suburb of Chicago, Naperville) We are still considered to be in a drought! Usually when we have a dry summer such as this year, we get plenty of rain for the fall. And almost always have a nice blanket of snow on the ground when temperatures dip...

new powermate tiller.... what a letdown

I thought up to 10% Ethanol was standard, and had been for at least 20 years? Is your tiller a 2 stroke or 4 stroke? The 2 strokes require and oil additive in the gas. 2 Strokes can be a pain to get used to starting but if you can remember to, prime it, full choke and pull till it kicks over...

    My new lettuce gutters!

Hmm, I have a fence around my house, I can attach 3 levels of gutters on it! I don't see why this wouldn't work. The best part of this idea, is that the rabbits wont be able to eat the lettuce before I do! Now only to find a way to set this up with drip irrigation. Just sow in some lettuce...

    Elm tree?

That is an Ash tree. Looks to have gotten the Emerald Ash borer. I would report that to your states agriculture dept. And whatever you do, don't transport that wood anywhere! The ash borer is killing ash trees all over America. Around here the towns have been cutting down all of the ash trees...

new powermate tiller.... what a letdown

I have a few tillers. A old beast of a troy built. A early 80's Ariens Rocket type, and a attachment for my 1975 Cub Cadet. My girlfriend has the Mantis, and I must admit it has power for its size. And can tackle small to medium jobs fairly easily. Nothing is built with much quality anymore...

    indoor garden light

Wow I never thought about going to a pet store for the end caps, or even making a setup with them! I know my plan for tomorrow now. As far as the ballast for the T5's do they sell them as well? I just got a light intensity meter this Christmas and am going to try numerous setups and see what...

    Ordered Frist Trees mailordered

I agree with some trees just re-seed to easily. But some people love the way rose of sharron re-seeds! The tree I notice re-seeding the most is the native redbud. I am constantly pulling up redbud seedlings, they always make it in the strangest spots. (But I love redbud trees) Rose of sharron...

    Seedling Soil

I used to buy that seed starting mix. But it would always dry up and turn into a brick. I found its best to make my own. I use a good organic potting soil, and i add peat, vermiculite, and perlite. The young plants seem to love it! I use the old T'12s (4) above them trying to keep them about...

    indoor garden light

Journey- Yes the T12s are the thicker ones. I have never tried to use the T8s or the T5s. The quality made grow fixtures usually will have 4-6 T5 bulbs in them. And that will do 2 flats.

    indoor garden light

Do you use the T12's journey? I have many shelves that still use them, but since they are now being phased out I am switching over to this CFL setup per shelf as the T12s run outta life. Them being phased out means that they no longer make new T12 bulbs, so the price will go up fast as current...

    A new-to-me tiller.

I've got some of the thornless black berries. I personally prefer their taste to their thorny cousins. Come spring I will probably have a few rooted cuttings I can pass on to you. I grow them on my fence and they've been there for years! You just gotta remember the older canes produce the...

    Named Winter Storms

The weather channel is great! If I think my weather is bad I turn that on, and say ok, I can live with this! They name the storms because they think it will make people take the storms more seriously. It might be confusing though when you say Kate got my car stuck!
