I slice zucchini toss in bags and freeze. Works well for lasagna or mixed veggies. I shred it also and us for breads. You can cube it and freeze to make a crisp later in the year. If I have a ton of it, chop up freeze. Great for treats for the chickens in the winter warmed up or early spring to...
I received my seed catalog from Stokes. On page 48 there is a picture of a ladies garden who has black pipe around her tomato plants. Does anyone else do this? Do you still need to stake them?
THANKS
Was doing some research about making herbal vinegars. So many different recipes. One says heat vineagar, another said not to. One said dont leave your herbs in it for over a month, others say who cares!
Has anyone made this? I was wanting to make this for Christmas gifts with my fresh...
Sorry, I cant tell you there is an easier way. I just hose off, throw some in a bucket of water and rub with my hands, toss in another bucket of water and seal save. But I dont have clay dirt, so not sure of this will help.
Depends on what kind of peas they are. If they are snapr or sugar I freeze pod and all, cause we eat it all. Other peas I shell and freeze. You are suppose to blanch but I find they are not as crisp if I do that.
You are right, once you shell them, man was it worth it??? :P
That recipe is the only one I have ever tried. It does make a difference in the juice as to what kind of tomatoes you use. Paste maters will give you a thicker juice and not much water. I have drank the juice as I was making it, but I think it taste different after it sits for a few months.
I have a squeezo-o, just like your hand crank one. I have not ever cooked my tomatoes before I press. I wash them good, if they wont fit thru the hole I will cut them in half. Put thru machine, which seperates the juice from the seeds, core, etc. I also cook a few hot peppers and celery and put...
Is there a difference in taste? I want to can pumkpin and so far I only have jack o lanterns that are doing well. How about the seeds? Any difference in roasting and taste?
I always freeze them. But I am out of freezer space and hubby said there will be no more! lol. I did look it up on the internet and I found canning peach nectar? I think I will try doing it like patandchickens said. Maybe do a few jars, wait a day or 2 and open one up.
Why not try old sheets or go get some cheap fabric, put some sticks or wood in the ground and tie your cloth to it, that way it is above the ground and water and air can flow easily or put your 4 stick in the ground but 2 higher than the other 2 and do the same. Hope this makes sense.
Thanks for the info. Not sure if I will just break down and get a p.c. or freeze it. I think if I go get another freezer hubby will throw a fir, we already have 3 freezers and there is only 3 of us! :P
Got lots of chicken backs and no room in freezer. I found a recipe for a chicken stock and it says to pressure cook. I dont have one of these, can I just hot water bath the stock?
I have a salsa recipe that is good, but there is nothing like a fresh salsa. So my question is even tho I do see someone said it is unsafe to do, can I make the same fresh salsa recipe, put it in my jars and then hot water bath? Is this what the most of you do?
I am so sorry it took me so long to post the recipe but here it is, I just had some on my ice cream.
Remove rind and seeds. Cut into small pieces. Use enough water to keep from sticking and boil till soft. Run through a sieve. Measure 1 quart cantaloupe to 1 1/2 c sugar, 1 T lemon juice and 1...
