I hate the post pounders...they just wreck my neck and shoulders, even more so than just using the sledge hammer. Don't know why that is but they just don't fit my hand, it seems. I'll take that four pound sledge any ol' day over the post pounder.

I prefer the post pounder. I especially prefer DH or DS use it as I watch and/or put the posts into position.

Post pounder any day! I In our stony soil you need all the help you can get to drive a post in straight. I know If I used a sledge to drive a post I would be walking around with my left arm in a sling.
I think it's easier to let the weight of the pounder do the work, the hardest part is getting it on and off those tall posts.

I used to feel silly using a kitchen chair in the fence row, but it makes putting on and off much easier.

Yeah, it was touch and go a few times for me. Losing control when taking it off over your head is a rather thrilling garden experience.
