I plan on winning the longest vine with the biggest flowers and no sight of a pumpkin
Yes! What is with that? I have little pumpkins that continue to fall off on the majority of my vines... I have probably 14 or 15 vines and only 4 pumpkins.

Same thing is happening to my tomato and squash plants, too... the flowers just dry up and fall off the plant.
I haven't tried it with squash or pumpkins... but have you tried putting 1 tbs. epsom salt in a gallon of water then spraying your tomato foliage with it? It works like a charm with tomatoes and peppers. I have tomatoes and peppers dripping off of plants this year. I swear by it! It prevents end rot, makes the blossoms set to fruit, & strengthens the plant. You spray the whole plant, not just the blossoms. Supposedly, it's the magnesium that does the trick.

I'm out :( Too much heat and no rain has totally killed my garden. I just have 2 birdhouse gourds left down there. Maybe next year, this year was just too much with the extremely wet spring going into drought. Good luck to those that still have pumpkins growing!

I don't think I'm going to win anything, I'm getting a lot of fairly small pumpkins off my volunteers two of which are already turning orange. And I think all my other pumpkins got wiped out by Colorado beetles and squash beetles. The one that had the huge wounds from the chicken died and dropped off the vine. :(

Don't give up, yet. At least weigh in at the end! All my pumpkins kinda stopped growing about a month ago. I have the cutest lumina (white) pumpkin that's about the size of a softball.

Ok, I had to pull up everything today. All my plants were dead and rotting.

I'm going to start my weigh in now. Remember you have until 15 October 2011 to weigh in.

My "fall harvest" with lots of teeny pumpkins:

One very messed up looking pumpkin:

And my "prizewinner" (notice even it didn't escape new chicken pecks between the minute I picked it til I got it inside. Darn shoe changes):

And my not-so-impressive weigh in:

22.8 lbs!

It's one of the most impressive pumpkins I've grown, but much smaller than I imagined.

I'm making a blue hubbard pie tomorrow. I roasted it and pureed it today but my darned pie crust hadn't thawed yet - out on the counter for a couple hours and still hard as a rock. Hopefully I'll be able to roll it out tomorrow and finish the pie.

Any ideas on what to do with the other two I grew? (Which, I'd like to point out, were also small)
