A post hole driver is THE way to get your fence posts in. So much easier to let gravity and weight do the work than to risk your fingers with a hammer.

Are you kidding? We loaned our driver to someone who 'forgot' to return it so for a while I was the official post holder to DH's hammer-er. Yup! Fingers regularly get in the way especially when DH misses the post.

It's a heavy steel tube with handles. The open end goes over the post, and you lift the driver with the handles and slam it down on the post. It not only gives you more force to drive the post in, it's a lot easier to control the plumb. They're pretty cheap and totally indispensable.

They can be dangerous n hands of a man. We use them to pound posts into ground. Get too aggressive and can lift over post, catch post wrong and have it land on your head. Been there done that. About knocked me out. So DUMB.

and here thought i was the only one to do that.......

I've never had one come off while I was pounding, but taking it off a tall post when you're done, that's been a little dicey a few times.
