I agree, beautiful. It will be interesting to see what they look like after they have aged some. My purple ones tend to turn black and white often turns ivory or a dull brown. If those would maintain those colors you could make jewelry with them. Probably could anyway but I usually like immature colors, they are often so bright.

if those stay like what happens with Purple Dove they will get darker purple but won't go black.

Your new bean from Rio Zape looks like you got that unique Robert Lobitz look of many his beans like Blooming Prairie. Though probably larger seed. Very pretty.

yes, i need more brown beans...

it's not an PD outcross. i found some markings on a few of them which puts them in another family of beans i've been growing and getting out crosses from for many years... just another in that clan. i won't grow it out next year to see what happens, i already have another three beans i'm already working with and need to get those further along before i try to explore yet another.

1cm +- a few mm is about the range for the largest i see here for these. so if they are larger that would be interesting. also if they are pole beans or semi-runners or bush. looking forwards to grow out news next year.

They are not that big, maybe 1cm at best. They grew as a pole, like the outcross did last year only not very high and I got 5 purple pods from it. It's other siblings are still climbing, well over my head and have just started to bloom, so am hoping for dry seed from them!

the journey of deciphering the bean i call Monster has continued. this year i took some of Monster and some of the Monster Children and planted them to see what happened next.

Monster bean came from an outcross of Dappled Grey and some other parent which remains unknown to me (the outcross happened someplace else - not here).

from what i'm seeing Dappled Grey might be a lot of recessive traits. maybe whatever crossed with it had a lot of dominant traits? or a lot of recessives too? i did get Dappled Grey back in the 2nd generation but only as one plant that i know of so far which leads me to my tentative conclusion above that it is a lot of recessive traits.

eventually when i get the camera going again i'll have pictures. right now there's no room at the inn...

this is a bean picture. not quite what i want yet, but close... can you guess the parent (if you don't already know it?): :) the bigger view is:

in that picture only three of those beans are represented in what i have harvested so far (the Dappled Grey, the half bean with the Monster pattern and the solid Grey). there is a Pink instead of the Grey (but the same pattern) and another is half white and a very faint tan.

the forecast yesterday was for sunshine all day today. i'm sitting here sorting beans and i hear rain on the roof so i check the forecast, they changed it now to scattered showers all day. i'm going to be outside picking for the next week with chances of rain happening about every day. if i get out today for the whole day i might be able to pick what is ready of the most critical beans and get them dried out well enough but i'm not sure i can pick everything. what i'm really hoping for is that the scattered rains miss us the rest of the day (the beans will be wet from dewfall anyways right now). always an adventure!
