Motion activated sprinkler?
I think the fishing line has the possibility of causing unintentional harm if it were to get wrapped around some part of them. I'm thinking of my cat with his 'snakey' toy. He sometimes gets caught in it, but it's only soft fabric material so there is no harm done.i know, i want to put more fence up but Mom doesn't want more fence. so i'm stuck with less than perfect other methods.
i've put up a scarecrow and will put up some strange smells for them to see if that will hold them off for another night.
the large deer is not looking to being the one doing most of the eating it is the little hoof prints i'm seeing in the gardens. i will also put out more traps to see if they will step on them and startle them off. i was also thinking some poles with fishing line on them that will grab at them as they try to walk by which they won't be able to see. they may not like that at all. collapsible so it doesn't cause damage, but just something that happens to them that they're not used to having happen here. a stack of pop cans with the fishing line through it too so it falls over and makes noise. except i don't want to be waking up during any of this.
I have friends with a farm in the green triangle in Cali who have motion controlled paintball guns that shoot pepper spray balls. I don't think it's deer they're worried about but it might workMotion activated sprinkler?
Maybe a motion sensing light, if you can get power out there. Screwing an outlet into a socket, you can then plug in a variety of electric/electronic devices. I used that method once, when deer were visiting my apple trees every night (and munching on everything else while they were in the yard). DW was getting upset over all of her flowers being eaten. I tried motion sensing lights; but these are suburban deer, and quickly learned to ignore the lights. So I plugged a small motor into the light socket, which turned a pipe snake inside a piece of conduit under the trees... the sudden sound at their feet scared them away. That would probably be too loud for your purposes, @flowerbug; but a motor moving something quietly but quickly might serve the same purpose.booger deer are eating my other garden now.![]()
