Not much to say about this one. A nice bean and it produced well. Very nice dry pods and easy shelling. I love the rich burgundy leather color that this bean shows in some light.

Fukuryu Chunaga

This one is not only fun to say, it was fun to grow and produced handsome seed of good size. It is listed on abeancollectorswindow.com as having Japanese origin. I would love to know more about the bean and what the name means. Fukuryu Chunaga seemed to require a bit longer season than most.

Globula

One of my favorites! The name makes me think of outer space - like a combination of globe and nebula. It is a bit out of this world. Globula produced nice beans with a great color and pattern. I did not try it as a snap. This reminds me of pictures I have seen of Rotebeerbohne. It also looks like Rising Fawn, which is a pole bean. I have not grown either of those.

Label

I admit that half the reason I grew this bean is because I thought it would be ironic to write its name on the row label. Now I find it ironic that I didn't get a photo of the Label label. This was a pretty good bean to grow, label or not. One benefit to growing an all-white bean is that it's easy to sort out the bad beans at harvest. But Label didn't have a lot of bad beans.

Marfax

I was excited to grow Marfax because I have read that it makes a good baked bean. I can't remember now where I read that. By next year I should have enough for a batch of baked beans. There is something warm and pleasant in this round, brown bean.

Note - this is NOT the entire yield from 6 plants. I just wrote that on the bag to help me remember and calculate yield.

Striped Bunch

This bean turned out prettier than I was expecting. The appearance was a complete surprise since I couldn't find a photo before I grew it. It did grow with some runners though it is listed as a bush bean. There was a fair number of solid black beans mixed in, which I think gives it a fun look.

Sulphur

My last network bush bean for 2022. I grew this because someone had mentioned they thought it could be the same as Hutterite, which I have also grown. It is not the same bean in my opinion. Something that surprised me is that it turned out much rounder than the beans shown on abeancollectorswindow.com for Twin Falls Sulphur. Maybe it's not the same bean? I assumed that it was, but I think I am wrong. Sulphur is a nice white bean which was easy to shell. I'm a little afraid to eat it given the name. The shape and size of this bean is almost identical to Bomba, which is another bean I grew this year.

Schwarze Dalmatiner
Bush, dry. Huge production, probably the biggest yield of the bushes in 2022. Great quality seed. Fantastic bean variety!

Pfaelzer Juni
Bush, snap. An early variety, has never been very productive for me. Now that I think of it, most early beans, even poles, seem to sacrifice some production for earliness. But it is a very nice bean nonetheless. Grows really low to the ground.

Quedlinburger Speck
Pole, snap. Awesome snap bean! Super long, tender, delicious. Superb!

Ntingi
Pole, dry. I think this is my favorite speckled bean of all the speckled varieties out there. You can't tell from the photo here but fresh it's a pastel pink speckle. Very pretty, delicate looking. Excellent seed quallity, just like Mrociumere. I can see it's starting to darken a bit already; I guess some beans oxidize a little more quickly than others.

Pole, dry? - could also be a snap too. I think the name means 'much', and if so, it's a great name because this was another super high yielder. I need to do some research on this one to find out more, but it performed wonderfully in 2022.

Schafermadle
Pole, dry, I think*. Given how tight the pods dried over the beans I think this may be a variety that can be eaten as full beans. The seeds are on the smaller side, but very productive. The colour is actually burgundy, not black, like it seems in the picure. The seeds are on the smaller side, and really sweet little beans. 🫶

Grandma Nellie's Mushroom
Pole, wax bean. Another mega producer, very early too. The seeds don't seem to fill out well though; the seeds I got were a bit deflated and the seeds I harvested were much like that. I don't know if it's a variety quality or it's sensitive to hydration stress. 2022 was the first time I tried it so I guess I'll see in future grow outs.

Watchelbohne
Pole, dry. I had such great luck with my European beans this summer and this is another one that did great. Wasn't quite as early as some of the others, but I still got all the pods to dry down and mature well. Lovely bean. Also goes by the name 'Quail' bean I believe, which is interesting, because I think that is another way to say 'Pinto' bean. These look very different than the North American pintos, that's for sure!

Zwolse Paarse
Pole, dry? Such a big purple bean! I grew it late, and in a pot, and it was one of the few that really didn't do great but I still got plenty of seed to try again. I think the name means 'Sultry Purple'. Really nice variety, and very different.

This is a bean I didn't grow, it was sent to me as a gift by a seed requester from New Brunswick. It's a pole and called 'Odawa'. He certainly grew some nice seed!
