Northern Pinto was also able to produce a bumper crop, finishing much earlier than other beans. I had several pods with colour reversals, which for me was quite exciting. Am I correct in assuming that I should not plant the reversals? Or if I wish to I could segregate them and plant them in a separate patch, just for fun? Finding anomalies such as this one are really interesting.

I don't know the mechanics, but my own experience tells me that reversals are somehow environmental though some varieties definitely get more. I've tried planting all reversals of a couple of varieties, including Ga Ga Hut pinto and it doesn't seem to affect the final result.

You can plant only reverse colored beans and you will still get the normal ratio of seed the way they are usually colored and then the small amount of reverse colored beans. There are two genes which controls seed color and pattern and it depends on which gene is active at the time the seed is forming. That's what I've been told by a dry bean breeder at the University of North Dakota.

Does anyone have Iroquois Cornbread bean to sell or swap? I grew out my last ones this summer but they didn't produce any harvestable beans! I am not sure why...just put them in too late maybe? I am in Canada.

I have Iroquois Cornbread I can sell you. You can also view it on my website www.abeancollectorswindow.com on page Gi-La. $5.00 a packet and postage to Canada for one packet could be for about a 4 oz package $15.75 USD. That would be for most places in Ontario. It could vary if you live further away from where I live in northern Illinois.

So, I decided to geek out a bit tonight with weighing in some of this year's heavier hitters. I definitely set a record for my garden with one bean. Not all the pole beans are dry, even a few bush beans are still drying up on cages, but these ones have mostly finished up so I think the scale is a fairly good representation of how these did. I wanted to weigh Grand Mere because I know that one was really productive, but I need to pick the leaf and stem crud out of the beans before I do that. I post this mostly for anyone like me that always keep's an eye out for the more productive bean types. 2 posts.

Crevette Kidney (network bean) about 6 plants, semi runners

Lucie (network bean) 3 or 4 plants, pole

Mangetout Pleine Panier (network bean) about 6 plants, semi runners

Fagiola D'Angelo Imperia (network bean) 3 or 4 plants, poles

Annelino di Trento, a raised planter about 3 and a half feet by same. Block planted. For tiny little crescent bush beans these small plants sure can produce!

Slut (network bean) 3 plants, pole

Turkey #1 (network bean) 3 plants, pole

Angel Eye (network bean) 6 plants, bush

Bigarradda Gris-Negre, 4 plants!! I piled the scale container right up with these and then they fell all over the floor when I tried to get them back in the paper bag! 🤣. Over 2 lbs from a single pole, that’s never happened before.

Kitoba (network bean) 3 plants, pole. One more plant might have gotten me to nearly 2! But I pulled the 4th plant cause the leaves looked off.

Barragonnier, 6 plants, bush. Gonna post a better pic of this later to show how pretty it really is. This was my 3nd best bush performer after Angel Eye and Annelino di Trento.

Julifreude, 3-4 plants, pole. This was a superb snap bean.

Lusaka, 6 plants, semi-runner. The off colored beans are the cross that was in the row. Should have pulled those out, but only realized they were in the bag when I dumped it in the scale container. Network bean.

Zwolse Paarse, 5 feet of trellis, poles. So close to 2!

Rote Keibtizbohne, 3 plants, poles. Big mama beans.

Mascarade de Briel, 3 plants, poles. Network bean.

Tankuro soybean. I didn’t plant much, but the productivity was good considering and they were fairly early. Definitely earlier than Black Panther. Seed size is nice and plump, bigger than Gaia & Urga Saja.

I’d like to join the network and grow out some beans. Do I need to register for my zone or something? I’m in zone 3, and I can usually grow beans up to 110 days to maturity but not usually beyond that.

i think the only requirement is that you can get the beans mailed to you and are able to return them. some countries do not make it easy.

This grower has contacted me by email. We have another new Network Grower Yay ! They will get their beans in January 2024.

got most of the Venda pods shelled today. last time it seemed to go very slow and so i gave myself two days to get it done. this time i guess having fingernails and strong fingers i could get right through them for the most part and got them done in a hour and a half. not that many seeds, but enough to replant and give a few away. that's all i really need anyways as i'm pretty sure i have some left from last year and even several years ago.
