... But in the priority list posted by Blue-Jay on 1/1/2025, and referenced in Vanalpaca's post #341, the first 8 varieties are listed neither in the network nor sales list. Also not in the Will Bonsall collection. I didn't get through the entire list, but many others fall in the same category. Are these beans new to Blue-Jay's collection, and just haven't been placed on either list yet?

sorry, i didn't look that closely, i would guess they are not included yet on his website. :)

Blue-Jay, please tell me about the priority list. I requested my network beans before the list was finalized and shared this year. Having been reminded of the list (Thank you, Vanalpaca!), I did some reviewing of both the network and the for sale bean lists on your website. Some priority varieties don't seem to appear at all. Others are on the for sale list and/or grown quite recently. Maybe I'm the only one with this question, or there is a description/discussion somewhere I just haven't stumbled on. What is the intent of the priority list, and how are they chosen?

The priority list are mostly ones that have never been grown. I don't have any descriptions written on them. I thought it would be nice to see how these beans might perform. The ones that have been grown recently I thought the amounts of them are still very thin and it wouldn't hurt to boost up the volume on them. Some of these beans were donnated at seed swaps or just mailed to me. Sometimes I don't have time to deal with them in anyway. So I just put them in the freezer and record their name. Some of them might be hidden gems. I will probably put most of them back up on this list again next year. So write down any you might be interesed in growing just in case they disappear off the list.

This is a first & I'm super shocked. They actually opened my package. Thank goodness they still sent it along and I got it alright, but this is concerning. I'm not sure if this was just a random thing because the beans in here had some weight to them, or if this is the result of something else. It's not really a problem from the point of view that Canada has an open border policy with seeds, but still. Doesn't bode well to me.

I believe I read that small quantity back yard garden seeds was unregulated but that they tracked large shipments for agriculture type use and resale use. So maybe it being so heavy...

hello! I have just joined up after reading through this and the 2024 bean thread. I will be growing out a couple of beans too. It is great to see some familiar names here and there from the Gardenweb and other forums back in the day. I think maybe Tomatoville too. Cheers, Susanne
I was on tomatoville but found out recently that the site is now shut down. Shucks. So grateful for finding this site!!!!

I received another box of beans... I've got a good idea now of sizes and colors. Would like HINTS from y'all on how to get the most dried beans per plant for my pole beans. Should I pick a few early season so the plant puts out more pods or should I top the vines so they put energy into flowering? Any gardening tricks to make the beans produce more pods???

i scoped out the first pea and bean patch, peas are looking good, the beans are poking up but not a normal germination, but whatever ends up growing will be ok. i have a bunch more to plant the next few weeks... :) no pics yet...

I made the mistake of planting all my King of the Garden Limas and all of my Scarlet Empress/Magic Runner Beans. I don't see them sprouting but I did find a swollen up Lima and it isn't soggy so hope it grows with the warmer temps! My Monte Gusto wax beans also did not sprout and I didn't dig for them to see what's up. Last year I had 30 feet of peas. This year nada. I also have vole tunnels!
