It sounds burdensome. But how can a tariff be assigned to a parcel that has no value assigned, or price charged, by the sender or recipient? Will tariffs be charged on gifts sent to family or friends across the border(s)?
I wonder the same thing myself. The app works through AI and apparently it will assess value based on a photo and info it asks you to plug in, it may even ask for your estimate of it's value. That still doesn't address the issue though of how you'd quote someone a price on parcel when your dependent on Zonos calculations, it would have to be a guess. Yes, the tariffs seem to apply in all cases, even family and friends parcels. The charges are on the part of the sender as far as I know.

I'm just hoping that by the time I'm ready to mail Bluejay his seeds the system is lifted. That's probably not likely, but I'm holding out hope.

For some days, several European post carriers did not send anymore any parcels to the U.S. Now, the Swiss post is only proceeding parcels with the declaration "present" and a maximum value of USD 100 to the U.S. and the full tariffs must be paid regardless that it is a gift for the family or friends. But I don't know what happens if the value declaration is zero and what is the new administrative burden for sending a present.
