Your photo looks like true bush growth for sure.
I lifted that photo from a website that sells that bean, can't remember the name of it, but I got lucky that they had a photo of a bed of them. Not a super common thing to see on a seed website! Well, it's good to know there won't be any surprises.

Love the combination of speckles and uneven blotch around the eye on the Centerville Special. I think that hilum pattern is quite unique

Victoria Brown Eyes has some form of that but the shape of the bean is different (the color is also different :) ).

i've grown VBE a few different times and it seems like it would do better in a cooler climate with a longer season. one of the larger seeded varieties that don't always do so great here, but they were productive enough when i did grow them.

I agree with @Triffid . Centerville Special is a lovely bean. I really like the tiny dots all over the seed coat. So this year I will be sowing @flowerbug's Spotted Pheasant again.

@Blue-Jay
Is the Centerville Special part of the Robert Lobitz Legacy series?

Yes it is but I still consider this an original bean of mine. This bean is about 10 generations removed from any of the last saved beans that Robert collected in his grow outs. Ron Thuma was next to get a hold of those last Lobitz beans and grew them out for 5 generations. Robert never saw this bean. The beans that Robert got from Dan Jason at Salt Spring seeds and grew out until stable and then named them. Are they Robert Lobitz or Dan Jason originals. Is Fiesta that came out of Candy at Annapolis seeds. Is that their original or mine. What is your take on this I'm curious to know. Am I doing something wrong or against the memory of Robert Lobitz.

i don't think so. :) if you did the work in getting them stable and acknowlege where they came from before that i consider that a fitting tribute to Robert's original intentions (or at least that is how i've read any of the descriptions of him and how he was growing beans).

@Blue-Jay , I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you mean. I just wanted to complete my notes. I was curious if I could add Centerville Special to the varieties you selected from the Robert Lobitz materials you obtained. And that's all. It's obvious that you selected, stabilized and named these beans and I had no intention of questioning that in any way. I guess my question wasn't precise again, sorry.
