Are they too old? - Seeds

I've finnaly decided I'm planting. I'm going to get some more seeds, and maybe a few berry bushs. But right now I have some old seeds, like 8-12 years old. They are Okra and a few herbs. Are they too old? Is there a gide line for seed age?

Well, I know the older they get the less likely the germination rate will be good... but I would wrap a few in a moist paper towel and put them on top of your fridge in a glass or jar. That way you can see if any sprout within 7-15 days. Just keep an eye on them. Good way to test if they are any good.

If they got moist over the years though, chances are they won't. Can't hurt to test them though. Finding old seed is how some of the heritage varieties have come back over the years!!!

I think that anything over 5 years typically is too old but I had some seed that was my mothers and gave it a try. I wasnt' sure how old they were but it was over 10 years. Nothing grew but I would still test it.
