You have NO idea how true that is...a true picture of life in Appalachia in my parent's time and their stories are sometimes hard to hear but I loved my time living off grid and homesteading, so that part would make for more pleasant reading.

It's definitely unique among my peers so we didn't have much to talk about and still don't.

And if you go to Boone County WV you will find it's still the same! They have a whole different way of talking in Boone County than the rest of the state and for the life of me, no one can figure out why.

That's one reason I love this state..it's a throw back, smack dab in the middle of more settled and civilized states and I love that it has retained that independence for this long. In some hollers and backwoods in this state you will still find people living very much back in time... in the way they dress, the things they do, the way they talk and think.

Putting seedlings out on the front porch in the sun to harden off for the garden. The lavender is coming up!!! Planting the squash, melon and cukes in the seed trays today and expect I'll see them up by the time I get back from my trip.

Still waiting on wood chips...... Made several calls lately to places, mostly getting a "not interested in coming that far, even for money" or no answer at all. I get the impression that God is shutting down my attempts to "manage" this and will get me chips when He is ready... and when I stop dancing around like a kid that needs to pee because I don't have chips yet.

Will be getting the fencing stretched and stapled on the posts today, as the Lord has given us absolutely beautiful weather for working today! Hot but not so hot it takes your breath away, humid but less than the past few days, sunny and blue, blue sky with puffy white clouds. My favorite kind of sky!

Got the small gates completed and they just need hung...that will get done today too. Still have to work on the larger gate. Will be placing the trellis arch over the main walk in gate today as well.

It feels so good to be getting this fence done, having the garden tilled and ready for action, and seedlings hardening off out on the porch. My heart is just filled to overflowing with the joy for the Lord's goodness in it all....prayers have been answered(not the chip prayer....YET ) today and the whole day feels like walking in the hand of God. Peace that surpasses all understanding and joy unthinkable and full of glory!

The Lord awakened me at daybreak, per request, and I've gotten so much accomplished this day~ with His help...another prayer answered~ that my mind is racing with it all...this feels GOOD.

Got the fencing material up, among other things....slowly but surely it's coming together.

Many turn downs and dead ends on getting chips hauled out to the boonies and I can't wait any longer. If one doesn't get a garden in by May in this area, you just don't need to even bother with the effort. We have a short growing season and I'm already a week late. Got to get food in the ground and soon.

So, tomorrow I rent a U Haul utility trailer, 6x12 ft. and drive two counties over(50-60 mi. one way) to scoop up some chips in piles along the highway that I've been spotting on my trips across the state. I hope to make 2-3 trips if I can...supposed to be another gorgeous day like today. Will fill up Mom's 5 ft. truck bed and this utility trailer and make as many trips as I can before nightfall. Taking my youngest son with me to help, as this old lady ain't as spry as she used to be. Going to be a long, long day...but beautiful!!!

Praying my back holds out! Can't wait to get these chips and get on with gardening. Won't be able to put any on the orchard but as long as I have some for the garden and a few other small areas, I'll be very joyful.

I hope you get an abundance of chips tomorrow Bee, and I'm glad you've got your strong son to add a little muscle to the job. I imagine you'll have a great day enjoying each others company and the chips will be frosting.
