I got the meat processed, vacuum sealed and in the freezer. Wednesday friends brought their female Anatolian that was in heat, to be bred to my male. Leaving her farm and going to a strange place upset her and she just kinda stopped things. She was SUPPOSED to go into ready to breed heat, but didn't. She didn't eat for several days, but finally started eating again. They left yesterday, going to leave her here for a couple of weeks to see if she decides to get with the program. I gave her lots of extra attention and put some Cowboy Stew over her kibble. Oh boy! She gobbled it right down. So the remainder in the pot is hers until I run out. I will take her to the male twice a day and hope she swoons over this handsome fellow, fingers crossed!

She is in my stock trailer and I walk her several times a day in addition to her non conjugal visits. Somehow it escaped me when I agreed to keep her for a couple of weeks that I was going to Corpus Christi Wednesday morning for a school program that my middle granddaughter is in that night, that was ok, I have a friend caring for the animals while I'm gone. I was thinking that I would just leave enough food for Ozel, the female so there was no chance of escape, when it dawned on me....... I am taking the stock trailer with me! I am picking up a horse Thursday morning. Duh. But it's ok, I'll take her with me and she can ride in the back seat, it's fixed up for Carson to ride in it. The seat stays folded up and a blanket down for Carson to lay on, so she will be comfortable there. I'll put her in the trailer overnight and put her in the back seat when I pick up the horse and for the ride home. Oh my crazy life. I've got something going on every day this week!

My friend and I tried for days to put the two dogs together for making puppies. They showed a little interest and we got excited!
IMG_0196.jpeg

Our excitement quickly faded away as they got utterly bored with each other and laid down, far apart.

Friends went home Sunday. They left Ozel here and will be back the first week of December. The hope is that she will come back into heat and consummate her love with Buford. Ridgetop and I came to the conclusion that moving her right before the peak of her cycle threw her out of heat and possibly she might resume her cycle. But yesterday the two lovebirds were even less interested in each other. So I have my serious doubts. And I am about to smash that even more.

I am going to Corpus Christi tomorrow morning to see a school program that my middle granddaughter is in tomorrow night. The next morning, Thursday, I am picking up a horse to bring home. And where is Ozel? IN THE TRAILER! I'll put her in the back seat, it is all set up for Carson, that is where he rides. Carson thinks the truck belongs to him, those tires aren't supposed to roll unless he is in the back seat. He will be heart broken when I leave and he is not in it. Sorry Carson. So if the trip to here from her home threw her out of heat, taking her to Corpus Christi and back ought to blast her heat cycle off like dropping a bomb on a paper cup of water. Gone. We are already planning for next time. Ridgetop will bring Ozel at the first sign of heat instead of blood tests every 2-3 days, checking hormone levels and bringing her right before the peak. Obviously that did not work. Next time she might look around, think, OH! I know this place and that nice lady that gives me Cowboy Stew over my kibble and that handsome hunk that is waiting on me!

Today, RUN! First, do morning chores, then put Ozel and Buford together for their 30 minutes of boredom. I'm going to the food drop in a small neighboring community to help pass out food from 9-11, then hoof it to Tyler to have lunch with a couple we were friends with in Lindale, then meet my customer that is buying lamb from me (meat), then a dr appointment at 3:15, then home. 2 hour drive. I'll probably get home after dark and will have to do chores with a headlight on. Tomorrow, go to Corpus Christi. Back on Thursday, hopefully before dark. Friday morning, take sister in law to her PT appointment. Friday afternoon, groom horse and get to know him. Saturday-collapse.

Ozel took a tour of South Texas, she was less than impressed. She rode in the backseat, AC blowing, comfy on her blanket. Once I got to Corpus Christi, I walked her, put her in her traveling bridal suite, fed and watered her.

Ozel was definitely out of heat. Couldn’t even get Taco the weiner dog interested. Missed a chance for Dox-Atolians! Large long body, short stumpy legs, a livestock guardian that could take out coyotes and go down a badger hole!

We went to the school fall festival, lots of activities and fun. Granddaughter is fourth from left, they were drumming on drum pads, dancing and having fun.

Thursday morning I loaded up the horse, Ozel in the back seat and headed home. I only drove 60-65 MPH instead of my usual 75-85. LOL Trip took 7 hours. I avoided Houston traffic like the plague, that is gladiator high speed wrecks waiting to happen. Pulling a trailer with a horse in it? Nope! I only stopped for diesel. Ozel just wanted out.

I got home at 5 PM. I was in a hurry to get all animals fed, Ozel and horse squared away.

I had set up a crate for Ozel, knowing I’d be in late and not have enough time or want-to to get the trailer set up for her again.

Crate training 101 went rather well.

I unloaded the horse and put him in a 2 acre field.

Friday morning I cleaned out the trailer and put it back in the holding pen. I put food, water, her blanket and her back in the bridal suite, Ozel seemed relieved to be back “home”. I needed to feed the horse, didn’t want to run the gauntlet of 30 starving sheep, so I closed them up in the small night pen. They absolutely will knock me down if I have feed.

Horse was waiting on me.

I didn’t have time to put Ozel and Buford together, I had to leave at 9:00 to pick up my SIL for her PT appointment. I got back at 1:00.

I put Ozel and Buford together for their 30 minute date, they showed interest in each other at the beginning and end. In the middle of their date, Ozel just wanted LOTS of love and affection. The hope is that she may come back in heat. I’ll say this, 2 day trip to South Texas and back sure made her glad to be back here!

I will continue the twice daily dates and hope for the best.

Now I have to clean up the mess in the back, for the horse. There is a shelter, basically 4 posts and a leaky roof. I’m going to take down the cow panels, mow weeds over my head, fill in the shelter with dirt so it’s not a mud hole, caulk leaky roof, and put tin sides on it to block the wind. Also build a small night pen. There is lots of grass in the back field but haven’t been able to use it due to fences being down. I’m going to make the horse a pasture using hot wire and a hot “tape” that is 2” wide, white and very visible. It will be his day field, put him up at night.

Horse is an 11 year old Thoroughbred gelding, was raced, gelded at 4 years old, disappeared for several years, was a starved rescue horse when Jax got him and she brought him back to health. He has basically been in a stall, turned out at night and ridden English in an arena. I’m going to ride him Western and teach him to neck rein. No riding in circles in an arena. I do have a 60’ round pen for training purposes, but our riding will be going down all these dirt roads. He is 16.1 hands high at the withers, tall, massive and powerful. I’ll need a stirrup extender to get on him! I bought his bridle because he is already accustomed to it and when time is right, I’ll change bits and headstall. This is going to be fun.

i missed a previous post where you got rid of the horse you had before that looks now to have not worked out. i do recall though that there were issue with her being spooked at times and worries about that not being safe with children, so kudoes on you knowing that and being able to move on.
