BAYMULE FINALLY HAS SHEEP!!!

@baymule I love rack of lamb and lamb chops and have them quite often but never had it at home, dad ate a lot of mutton when he was growing up, hated it so it was never on the menu.
Those look like beautiful animals, I would so NOT make a farmer too soft hearted, I'd make a pet of everything :love.

Don't blame your dad. I recently had mutton. Love lamb any way. Mutton is NOT lamb....yuck.
 
Seed ... for a BBQ to serve a large group of people, I take an old ewe, marinade it whole in a 55 gal barrel, then BBQ it in an open pit and baste it with beer. When done, you have to serve it on a HOT steel plate and the fare is just GREAT and most people ask for seconds. Even my father in law , who hates lamb as he said he can taste the wool , will eat 2-3 helpings with gusto. :drool The real secret is to serve the mutton on a HOT steel plate because the sheep fat tends to cool rather fast and coat one's mouth with the fat that some people find objectionable. The restaurants that are in the know , will serve lamb and beef meats on HOT steel plates so that the custumer can enjoy the full flavor of the meat from the first bite to the last . :celebrate
 
@bobm explains it. Evansville has a week festival with local foods served. One was mutton barbecue. Bought it but ate part while there-it was OK. When got back home, ate rest-tasted like wool smells. And that is NOT GOOD EATS!!!!

Next year, plan on trying brain sandwich. Rest of family ate chicken & noodles--so boring. Me-mutton and alligator. It was better than what I bought at alligator farm...
 
I haven't eaten hair sheep yet, so can't confirm the lack of "wool" taste. Hair sheep do not have a lot of lanolin which is, as I understand it, where the strong taste comes from. I have read on BYH that older hair sheep are just as tasty as lamb-this was from members that raise sheep-I have no first hand knowledge. @Beekissed I know you raised Katahdins and butchered and ate them. Can you weigh in on this conversation?
 
Seed ... go to Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside , Cal. for their annual BBQ going back for over a century . My wife was born and raised in Oceanside and her dad helped in whatever needed to be done for the festivities at the mission . They BBQ a burro ( the real thing , not a burrito ) and is always a hit. ;)
 
Sounds good but I'm not flying out there for burro sandwich.
 
@thistlebloom Are you calling me a scare crow? :). Blind sided there by a northerner. Have Bay and Mary swung you to the dark side?.. If so, follow the yellow brick road back home.
