Your hog pen looks great. How much feed does the metal feeder hold? I need to get our hog pen built this year if work schedule permits any spare time. You guys are sure knocking out the projects this year and it only April. Keep at it
It will hold 100 pounds easy. I put in 50 pounds until they get to eating it in a couple of days. Thanks for the compliments. Started on 2 chicken tractors for the Cornish Cross. They will be heavy, on 4x4's, I'll have to use the tractor to move them.

I have a funny story. Our son came in for the Easter holiday, his job shut down for a week. It's been nice to have him here, relaxed and not having to hurry back to work or on his way to a job.

We kept the two little grand daughters, age 18 months and 3 years old for the weekend. My son took the 3 year old for a walk, she wanted to go see the pigs.

DS "You want to go see Bacon and Pork Chop?"
#2 "Their names are Piper and Poodle."
DS "No, they are named Bacon and Pork Chop."
#2 "That's not their name, they are Piper and Poodle."
DS "No, they're Bacon and Pork Chop."

#2 "That's what they'll be when they DIE. Right NOW they are Piper and Poodle."

you should be proud of all your hard work..congrats

oh by the way once you give farm animals names...it's a sin to butcher them...;)

Actually, we name them because we respect them. They deserve a name. They deserve to be treated like an animal that we plan to spend the next 20 years with. They deserve to be called by name, nick-names, given loving attention, and excellent care.
:love
When someone says "Wow! This burger is good!" and we answer "My secret ingredient is love" , we aren't talking about - exactly - about how it's prepared.. we put the love in while it's alive. :D

They are looking good enough to eat! We’ll take them to slaughter in mid July.

Those are some HANDSOME pigs! :love
I had never heard of the breed until you started this thread - and then, like the next week, someone was selling some near me!

I can't remember.. did you say that these root a lot? Or not so much?

I have GOT to get that pig pen added to 'The List'......
