Now that my computer seems to be behaving once again, here is the first shot of Hilda and her clutch of chicks.

I was wrong about the cats getting any babies. With the exception of the one I put the cage on in the dark and the one that drown in Thing One's water bucket, there are 11 babies running around in the garden shed.

I do need another picture. Those little ones have grown so quickly.

I guess the cats caught feral birds while I was trying to count moving chicks.

Aww... Broody mama is doing a good job of looking after her babies. They can be quite fierce. I'm sure the cats know better than to tangle with her.

From the comb development I would have said pullet, but I think I see sickle feathers on the tail and the dark, shiny green tail feather is a dead giveaway, a late bloomer perhaps, appears to be a cockerel to me.

I agree I bought several pullets from one gal and she had one almost a twin to it
but pullet then I picked up Oliver eggers from someone else two have come up as cockerels

Tail feathers caught my eye right away. I suspect you have a young rooster, but then my last October's pullet started crowing once the snow had melted.

I caught him in chest bump and bad crowing but at 10 am

Is that a pallet, PennyJo? I like that idea and had a similar idea for temporary/spare roosting....don't know why more folks don't use pallets for roosting platforms. Easy to get, poop falls through, sturdy and easy to roost upon.

And, yes, that is very much a cockerel....yay for meat!!!

I sometimes benefit from folks who don't want to kill their extra roosters and today I picked up four Maran cockerels from my sister. Just need to grow them out more and they will be grillin' fodder.

See? Chicken math isn't tough....you add and then you subtract.

Eggxactly the table was from a pallet we have three total I use to have
lots of money no life had a bad choice in life lost the money but sure learned how to repurpose
and have never has so much fun in the process
