common sense is out the window

Major......even I am stunned at the stupidity. And I know nothing about electrical wiring, don't want to know anything either. That is something that we hire out. Always.

Not stupidity! No reason to be stunned. It was just a question someone asked because they wanted to know.

And they were smart enough to ask before they tried it!

We did all the wiring when we built the house. Of course, by we I mean Spouse told me what to do, how to do it, and when. Knowledge is power. Knowing about electrical wiring and choosing to hire the work out is different from being ignorant about it and forced to hire the work done.

Ignorant isn't a bad thing either. I am totally ignorant about how to perform brain surgery. Ignorance is curable. Stupidity is forever. Off soap box. Soap box turned over potatoes in garden for the night.

.
That's not what I meant. Let me clarify, I am stunned at the stupidity of who ever wired up the box in the terrible shape he found it in

I humbly apologize for my mistake. There were a few posts between his justified lament and your stunned reply.

As Spouse often says, "that's why we have building codes today, " when looking at the stupid (or lazy or cheap) old work that is sometimes found when doing repairs on property.

I didn't want our New York friend upset. The only stupid question is the one not asked.

No need to apologize, the mistake was mine for not enunciating clearly. (I only write intelligently-my speaking voice is that of a long Texas/southern drawl with lots of English grammar atrocities and colloquialisms)
