So, you might agree that my plan for planting both types of garlic in 2025, which is after my 8 weeks of bone healing, around September 4th, would be okay?
I want to feel safe pushing my foot down on a shovel, you see.

nothing wrong with planting them any time in September IMO, but we're further north so perhaps give yourself a few more weeks of healing and then get it done... carefully... :) mid-September on. early October? i hardly ever do things when i'm supposed to...

@heirloomgirl, the seeds that I planted Were smooth. I also planted some sugar snap peas about 10 ft away.
Do you think that they cross pollinated?
I doubt they were cross pollinated ducks, an avid pea seed saver I know tells me it really is not that common for crosses to happen in even very large pea patches. And I've never seen it myself. Not impossible I guess though. It's possible the plants were dry as the peas were maturing, so the pea seeds didn't fill out as much as they could have? Wrinkled seeds is usually in very sweet flavored peas, did you grow any of those?

Yes, I did sprout (direct seeded) a handful of sugar snap peas this Spring. Gosh they were great right off of the vine!
Our Springs are So inconsistent--I think I will use distilled water jugs--I have at least 20 downstairs right now!--and start them early in those for next Spring.
I think that the only seeds I can get going when I am able to plant in September will be lettuces and radishes and those very early very cold hardy types.
Still, I am very happy to be encouraged to save Any seeds.
I hope to purchase a couple of Amish Paste tomatoes from the farm stand in a few weeks JUST for the seeds to ferment and save for 2026.

So...with somewhat limited energy, I chopped up one full tray of garlic slices and that big jalepano in a previous picture on another tray. I MEANT to fill the 6 trays of the dehydrator, but couldn't, so I left the glass doors open.
Last night I thought, What the hay? and started it up for 6 hours.

Weeellllll....Not all dried out where I Like them. The instructions suggestions "rubbery" was acceptable.
NOT for Me!!! :rant
I separated the "hard as banana chips" garlic pieces from those that needed more time.
They and the jalepano pieces, which were still rubbery, went back in for more time. You can see the pieces on the right side of the sink that needed more time. I Always use my sink for food jobs where something might fall on the floor. TOMORROW we pick up puppies, but the 4 cats shed enough that I don't want them in my food.
I should have enough finished garlic pieces tonight to finish filling a 1/2 pint canning jar.
Below, is what this looked like:

And, Yes, DD's are helping to puppy proof the house, so I scrubbed up my sinking to shining! ;)
