It is over 60°, this afternoon. The warmest day of the year, by far. I was saying that I had seen 3 bugs this winter. There were 2 flies in the lawn grass a few minutes ago. I couldn’t see what they were interested in but would guess that it is something the 🐿 dropped out of the tree, given his casual behavior. Bring back Winter!

this cartoon reminds me of why humans will never get rid of fungus gnats (and probably shouldn't try anyways). walking in the nearby woods one late winter the white melting snow was covered with fungus gnats. billions of them.
That sounds more like snow fleas, especially if they would jump when disturbed.

they were fungus gnats. i do know what they look like up close and they weren't jumping. what upset me the most was that i was thirsty and trying to find some clean snow and there was none to be found in the entire park (160 acres) back when i was walking a lot more than i am now.
