Hello once again all! I am back after a long and winding road of life events. I lost my flock of chickens a few years back and with the dwindling family ranks I decided i wasn't going to do them anymore. Well, now the urge to raise them and grow a better garden has returned and i look forward to learning more from each and everyone who offers wisdom and advice!

Hello all! My name is Adam and I am 40 year old husband, veteran and father. I am starting to homestead my 5 acre home with a small (150 sq ft) raised bed garden and 11 chickens. My youngest son (13) helps me with the garden and yard. I have about 1.5 acres that are currently mowable and the rest is woodland.
Welcome to the forum from the Pacific Northwest!

Im sorry to hear that. Since I had last been here in 2023, my DS3 got married, enlisted in the Air Force, had a baby, was discharged from the Air Force, moved to Virginia Beach with his MIL, figured out the couldn't afford to live there, and moved back in with us in Iowa, all three of them.
My three year old granddaughter has been diagnosed with autism, she is doing well with the therapists she is seeing.
Among all that, I've dealt with a severe breathing issue in February of 2024, a possible knee replacement in December of 2024, and then just the normal day to day life stuff.
However, among the negative stuff, I had some great things too. I took up bow hunting, restarted my garden, paid attention to it and learned from it, I have a good idea for next year's garden, Im close with both my granddaughters, I am introducing my oldest granddaughter to the outdoors, and both of them love being outside.
I'm not trying to compare, each our lives are very different, Im just trying relate, I've learned that I share my story to show others I get it.
Hope this helps you feel a little better about things.

@R3bauer welcome back. I am familiar with Peosta! I live just north of Davenport and grandsons have shot trap events at the trap range in Peosta. Yep, life is a roller coaster. Ups and downs. Enjoy those granddaughters. They grow up fast. My grands are now 15 and 18 come December!
