Hi jlmann,
Re:- RAIN, nope!! We were promised a lot last night -- NOTHING! Promised showers today -- NOTHING! It's getting serious here -- we will have water restrictions posted very soon.
My earth is beginning to crack already!! I try to mulch with anything I can get hold of (for free, of course). I'm so mean (& grumpy) I won't pay!!
Now a nice thing I have noticed this year!

Lots more bees! :bee :bee :bee Well in my garden at least! I do have a lot of native plants that attract them & I'm on a campaign to get people to plant lots more of them & for them to leave more of their gardens "wild". The British have a fetish about their lawns.

I don't know why -- It's a man thing -- the big mower!
I grow grass for my chickens only & only in scrubby patches. I grow them patches of lovely succulent weeds too, but then I have deliberately made them a woodland garden. It's a great joy to me as it is like living in a wood -- the birds appearing out of the greenery like something out of an 17th or 18th Century painting. It's why I have so many male birds rather than layers-- they are so beautiful (and anyway I don't eat that many eggs). I know this is a very eccentric point of view but that's me & I love the unexpected.
Meanwhile I have tracked down more Brandywine tomato seeds & they are on their way to me. I have sorted out the old windows & I have a sturdy high-ish solid fence that faces South -- so I am all set to go!!

Plenty of fleece at the ready!!
I've been out in the garden for most of the day patching up a very cheap portable plastic greenhouse that a kind friend has lent me so I can harden off my seedlings. It's hideous to look at, but I wont have to, as I have hidden it in a sheltered position (from the high winds we have at the moment) that can't be seen from either the house or main part of the garden
So tomorrow I will go to a local market to buy my provisions & treat myself to more plants, no doubt.
I'm very tired so I should have an early night --I'm just having a glass of wine now!

So goodnight everyone!

It has been a very productive day.
I hope your's has been as good! Happy Gardening!
