Is This ?

If you are going to fill water barrels, why not put a spicket at bottom, let gravity work for you.

I don't know what your summer rains are like NYboy, but new trees should get a long deep drink at least once a week their first year. Enough to get down past the roots.

wow drain pond not good, need to rethink. Was just going to use to water trees, might be better running hoses from house.
We have hydrants allover our property that is setup with a well pump. It is a backhoe dug well just for watering plants and animals. Not very deep. We used a cheap, actually a CL find sump pump when we first put the well in.It worked great until we had the money to put in the better system.

If you are going with a transfer pump, invest in 2" hoses and be ready to move a lot of water fast. You also had better have an excellent non-ending source of water. Not sure priming it will be that easy as most transfer pumps are moving fluids that are under the effect of gravity.

Buy a pump designed for what you want. The difference between buying garden hoses and 2" rubber hoses and fittings will more than eat up the $70 difference in pumps.
