When you are up to your a$$ in alligators, it's easy to forget you came to drain the swamp.

Being Southerners, we tend to drop the last part as everyone already knows the saying. It is used to explain that one has been extremely busy, overwhelmed, overloaded and not accomplishing much of anything. Y'all just didn't git it, coz y'all ain't got no gators! LOL

@seedcorn the only thing fer shure is that I am dead last. If I was a racehorse, I'd be on a truck to Mexico.

When I lived along the coast and went fishing in the coastal bayous and marshes, I'd see huge 12-14 footers sunning on the banks. In a park not far from our house are signs on the walking trail "Do not feed the alligators" That's a DUH moment...YOU could become lunch!

When a Southerner says up to their (fill in the blank) in alligators, they mean it's intensely busy!

I did not realize that they lived in Texas.

Our NYs are doing well, they are kind of short and bushy. They are a dark green color and look healthy though. I think they will start blooming soon.
