So Harry is its name? John Wayne attitude, but Dirty Harry its claim to fame. Getting down to work keeping the vermin and preditors at bay.

They do like anything that tastes like chicken, ya know.

I wondered why Brer Fox has been keeping a low profile lately.

They have been reintroduced to NYS, they are one of the few predators that can kill and feed on porcupines. The porcupine numbers are out of control in some areas cause great damage. They are mighty hunters, even coyotes avoid
From today's Times Union:

"Close to a dozen porcupines have been found clubbed to death along the border of Albany and Schoharie counties, near Middleburgh.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said he is "outraged" by the situation and has the names of eight teenagers suspected of killing the wild animals for what appears to be sport.

But state officials told Apple he does not have the right to take legal action against the teens, he said. Because porcupines are considered "nuisance wildlife," there is no law against killing them, Apple was told.

Apple was frustrated on Thursday about what appeared to be his inability to act. He sees the porcupine beatings as a precursor to other types of abuse, such as hurting pets or even other people.

"We all know it's bizarre and unusual, but it usually leads to something worse," Apple said. "That's a sick son of a (expletive) that would do this.""

I would think cruelty to animals would outrank harvesting porcupine pests under the law. Nyboy's right, someone beating an animal to death for the fun of it is scary on many levels.
