as my MS degree was designed (i go halfway through and never finished) around AI (back in the late '80s), etc i've known that they are not yet sentient or aware or even capable of understanding values, morals, etc.

even in their current state they are complicated parrots but not even as aware as parrots actually are.

when they have inputs, senses, capabilites of understanding space and how they fit into the spaces they inhabit, and then can intereact with people in our spaces and how we need to be and adjust their own views to fit their answers (compassion and empathy) then perhaps we'll be on to something. until then i'll remain skeptical...

My takeaway is that if it’s meant for animals to eat it, it’s probably ok for people to eat it, just maybe a bit more impurities included. (But if you’re eating sunflower seeds, you can probably pick any impurities out.)

except seeds for planting might be treated with fungicides or pesticides to keep the bugs from eating it while in storage or it may have coatings with all of the above plus fertilizers (though most of the time it seems like clay is used because it will be the cheapest ). though obviously you can usually see when stuff has been applied to the seeds - that said i'd never assume anything has been untreated because of how much processing most things are going through these days.

Government standards differ for seed used for human food and seed for other purposes, including, livestock feed. A willingness to eliminate those standards begs the question, are we leaving it up to the courts and personal injury for human protection? Certainly, consumer decisions would come into play with regard to liability.

oh you certainly know it does...

and you'll certainly find more chalk in milk again if the courts and standards are trashed... (as trends have been going).

Seeds for animals are usually raw, rolled/crimped or deshelled. These were deshelled sunflowers, as I didn't want to waste half of my time splitting n spitting! Lol
People used to say livestock seeds were xrayed or something so that you could not plant them. I've used them, often, to plant! Oats and corn have always sprouted, no problem.

No one should trust AI, and there's already studies showing that it's making people stupid.

Right. But then those wouldn’t be the ones being marketed as animal feed.

Once in a while, when I have gotten exotic species of seeds and nuts for planting, I will sacrifice ia few to consume, so I can know what they taste like. I did it with the Hind's Walnuts (not all that different from Black in taste), with the Skittle Nuts (because I'd heard they were better than Brazil Nuts. I can't tell the difference) and I think the Chilean Hazel.

Most of the time, the seed is too expensive or too little to waste any on eating. I'd love to roast a few of my Lard Pumpkin seeds to see if they really taste like pork crackling, but I only have six seeds (plus, the plant is dioecious; what if I have only one male/female seed, and eat that one? )

I ate a LOT of Walnuts when I found those ones in Chinatown that seemed to be regina - mandishurica mixes, but any nut I ate could not be planted, so it was lost. Pity (there were a few I ate that tasted like a walnut/pecan mix; that could have been interesting.)
